A Grand Old THANK YOU for Making Bainbridge's Largest Community Event Amazing!

 

With warm weather, wide smiles and initial estimates of 18,000-20,000 attendees, the 2023 edition of the Grand Old 4th of July was a huge success – and so much fun – thank you Bainbridge Island!


We had 70 different local groups participate in the mile-long hometown parade, 89 classic vehicles featured in the car show, and 85 different vendors in the street fair. None of that would have been possible without our amazing team of more than 75 volunteers, ably led Chamber staffers Jessica Perkins and tj Faddis.

This is the community's chance to provide their thoughts and future guidance with regard to the future of the entire Winslow Area.

Bainbridge Community Foundation Awards Record $561,492 Grants


Bainbridge Community Foundation’s (BCF) 2022 Community Grants Cycle awarded a record-setting amount of $561,492 in grants to local nonprofits.


BCF gave awards to five organizations for prioritizing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Social Justice (IDEAS) as part of their applications, along with a Catalyst Awarded to BYS for providing a critical service to our community.


In addition, BCF awarded the Klasky (Trustees’) Award to Bainbridge Prepares - a nonprofit for working closely in partnership with others.

Island Insights: HRB Shares How Housing Action Plan Helps Community


Maggie Rich, Housing Resource Bainbridge (HRB) Public Policy Specialist, shared their thought on city council adopting the Housing Action Plan (HAP) in June 2023 in her guest column.


, but also the care and precision of the three technical recommendations that suggest that HAP implementation will be strategic.


HRB hopes to see that creativity, collaboration, and discipline it’s going to take for the city to follow through on its promise to once and for all tackle a housing crisis that threatens to undermine so much of what we hold dear on Bainbridge.

The top 5 businesses have been nominated will now move on to the voting round from July 10 through July 23.

Candidate Forum: Affordable Housing

The city of Bainbridge Island has taken on the Housing Action Plan. The state is issuing directives about planning for population growth.


HRB Policy Specialist Maggie Rich will facilitate a community conversation with the 2023 candidates for City Council on their affordable housing policy ideas and their vision for Bainbridge Island.

Cruise Around Bainbridge Island on the Virginia V

Sun July 16, 1 - 5pm



View the panorama that is the Bainbridge Island waterfront as you cruise around it on the beautifully restored S/S Virginia V, the last of the “Mosquito Fleet” ships.


Watch the 1898 steam engine operate and pull the steam whistle in the pilot house.


Enjoy a delicious box of snacks from the deck of this historic vessel.

Kiwanis All Comers Track Meet

Every Monday thru August 14 at 5:30pm


The All Comers Track Meet – begins July 10, at the Woodward Middle School track.


Registration for the free event – aimed for runners of all ages – begins at 5:30 p.m., with races starting at 6 p.m.


The track meet includes 50, 100 and 400 meter dashes, a 50 and 100 meter hurdles event, a 4 x 100 meter relay, and the mile run that “everyone” can participate in.

Putt Putt Clash

Sat July 22, 12 - 8pm


The 12 to 18 unique home-made courses will open to public play at Blackmouth Design, on Bainbridge Island: 7689 NE Day Rd W.


A $10 ticket gets you a golf ball, putter, score card, and a ballot. Tickets can be bought day of at the entrance, or online at Event Brite.


After playing, YOU get to vote on your favorite course.
