HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT ONE WAY ON GROW & LOVELL AT COBI'S NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Wednesday May 4 at 5pm
The much-talked about proposal to make both Grow and Lovell Avenues one-way-only streets (Grow Northbound and Lovell Southbound) reaches the official public input stage next week.

Supporters and opponents of the project are expected to gather at a session where the city will present information about “calming” traffic on both streets.

ELECTRIC BIKES ON STATE LANDS?
Thursday May 12 at 12:30pm Wednesday May 18 at 5:30pm
With the rise in popularity of e-bikes, the state departments of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Natural Resources (DNR) have been asked by the legislature to seek public input on whether e-bikes should be allowed on state-managed lands.

Join one of two meetings to give your two cents or to take a public survey - all information will be shared with the legislature and used to make final decisions about future e-bike access.

DRAFT AFFORDABLE HOUSING DENSITY BONUS ORDINANCE UP BEFORE COUNCIL THIS WEEK
Tuesday April 26 at 6pm
This ordinance is the proposed solution to both allow Bethany Lutheran to construct affordable housing, and better align city code with that of the state's to ensure religious entities can create affordable housing projects on their land in general.

As an attempt to amend several pieces of municipal code that create impractical conditions that could jeopardized the project's viability, the proposed ordinance narrowly made it out of the planning commission via a 3-3 vote (and one commissioner recusing themselves).

If the ordinance is approved, Bethany Lutheran would have a clear path to create 21 new affordable housing units on 8 acres of church property.

RETAILERS, LAWMAKERS PUSH BACK AGAINST PLANNED CREDIT CHARGE INCREASES
Visa and Mastercard are being urged to cancel planned credit card swipe fee increases scheduled to take effect later this month.

As consumers absorb the costs of high inflation, the argument made by the National Retail Federation is that banks and card networks are receiving unearned windfalls as they piggyback on those higher prices.

In a show of bipartisan support, both Republican and Democratic members of Congress have joined the NRF in asking that fees be held at current levels for the benefit of consumers and businesses alike.

CITY COUNCIL TO ADDRESS ISLAND WIRELESS COVERAGE
Tuesday April 26 at 6pm
Also on tonight's docket is a public hearing regarding adding new Small Wireless Facilities to improve cellphone coverage on Bainbridge.

Code amendments will be addressed to meet Federal Communications Commission directives, which make it easier to deploy SWFs.

The proposal will also augment capacity for wireless data traffic in dense areas, like downtown cores and residential neighborhoods without big towers.
