WINTERGREEN TOWNHOMES READY TO BREAK GROUND
Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Noon
|
Join Housing Resources Bainbridge, city leaders and housing advocates as they break ground on the eagerly-awaited Wintergreen Townhomes project.
In total the new community will bring 73 homes to the island, 31 of which are slated for affordable housing and placed into the HRB community land trust.
The base price of each home is $369,000. To bridge the affordability gap, HRB will contribute $15,000 in funding from the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program, which requires homebuyers help finish construction on their homes in the final stages.

The project is a partnership between Bethany and Housing Resources Bainbridge to build 21 affordable units on the church’s property.
Council is expected to:

- Decide what kind of ordinance to write, one that will allow these homes to be built as a pilot project or one that can be applied to religious organizations island wide
Those wishing to make public comment about the project can do so at the start of the meeting during public comment.
Tonight's agenda includes:
- ADA Transition Plan to ensure city meets federal compliance

SUQUAMISH TRIBE TO GET $1.6M IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING
|
20 townhomes are expected to be built on Suquamish Shores to help ease the housing crisis on the Port Madison Indian Reservation.
On June 30, The House Appropriations Committee advanced the funding to support the tribe’s Enetai project. Rep. Derek Kilmer championed the appropriations bill and will continue to help ensure the funding gets signed into law for the 2023 budget.
The specific site for the Suquamish Shores development was regained by the tribe in 2018 after a 50-year lease with a non-tribal developer ended.

FAST FERRY TO BREMERTON? LOCAL BUSINESSES SAY IT IS WORTHY OF CONSIDERATION
|
In a recent survey conducted across the Kitsap Chambers of Commerce, 54% of responding Island business leaders indicated that a fast ferry option from Bremerton would help them.
In all, across more than 200 respondents, about 44% of those outside Bainbridge thought the ferry service would help their business.
While a fast ferry service from Bainbridge to Bremerton is just one of the new intra-county transportation ideas being proposed, the survey results indicate merit for further investigation as part of a larger multi-modal community transit plan.
See the full survey results in the 'Your Input Required' section below.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS MACK N JACKS
|
From the same white garage on Eagle Harbor Drive, Mac N Jacks has been servicing local cars and trucks since 1974.
The story of Mac N Jacks is the story of two families, the McFarlanes and the Jacksons, down to current owner Larry Jackson -- who worked in the shop as he was growing up -- and his wife Beth who took over the business in 2019 and expanded services by adding a motorcycle specialist to the team.
Keeping this family institution alive makes them highly “automotivated” to provide Islanders with the highest standards of service.
The team at Mac N Jacks also helped to sponsor 2022 Grand Old 4th Classic Car Show. THANK YOU!
