CITY ORDINANCE FOR INCREASING DENSITY BONUSES FOR RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS MOVES FORWARD TO NEXT COUNCIL MEETING
City Council moved 6-1 to further discuss City Ordinance 2022-02 to a future meeting.

The ordinance pertains to allowing a pilot affordable housing project at Bethany Lutheran Church. The church, in conjunction with Housing Resources Bainbridge, would build 21 affordable housing units if the city council passes an additional housing density bonus religious properties.

While all council members agreed that affordable housing was a paramount need, how to get there seemed to be in question.

Council member Pollock was the dissenting vote saying he was unsure the ordinance would achieve it's intended purpose without being discriminatory to other organizations or property owners.

City staff will bring further information for council members' deliberation to their next meeting.

CITY COUNCIL REJECTS SENIOR CENTER BIDS AS TOO HIGH
In a unanimous vote, city council members rejected bids for remodeling the senior center because the one bid received was over the outlined budget.

During public comment Executive Director Reed Priced acknowledged and accepted the city council’s rejection of the bids, but asked city leaders to revisit the process with him to limit the scope of the project for the most important accessibility upgrades needed.

BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION STARTS AT SPORTSMAN’S CLUB & SR 305
Work begins next Monday to replace the Murden Creek culvert – a fish barrier - with a new bridge and rebuild the stream. Removing the barrier will increase the likelihood of migration of fish into their creek habitats for spawning.

Drivers should expect delays but WSDOT is committed to keeping traffic moving as much as possible across the island as it’s a critical link for ferry commuters. To do this, they’ll build a temporary two-lane bypass road at SR 305 near Sportsman Club Road.

NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS MAC N JACKS
From the same white garage on Eagle Harbor Drive, Mac N Jacks has been servicing local cars and trucks since 1974.

The story of Mac N Jacks is the story of two families, the McFarlanes and the Jacksons, down to current owner Larry Jackson -- who worked in the shop as he was growing up -- and his wife Beth who took over the business in 2019 and expanded services by adding a motorcycle specialist to the team.

Keeping this family institution alive makes them highly “automotivated” to provide Islanders with the highest standards of service.

The team at Mac N Jacks also helped to sponsor 2022 Grand Old 4th Classic Car Show. THANK YOU!
