Rep. Greg Nance Proposes Roadmap To Fix Our Ferries
Washington's newest state legistator is wasting no time in trying to address one of Kitsap's pressing problems - the decline of our ferry system.
At last weekend's Bainbridge Town Hall, residents had the chance to voice their concerns, both large and small, while Greg shared updates of a special ferry commission he is trying to get funded through the legislature to address three principal areas of concern:
- Building a 21st century fleet of vessels
- Rebuilding the ferry workforce
- Fostering transparent, accountable leadership
If you missed the Bainbridge meeting, there is another chance to participate in Bremerton at Noon on Sat. Feb 3 at the Norm Dicks Center.

Proposed Gift Card Legislation Worries WA Business Leaders
Lawmakers in the House and Senate have introduced legislation related to gift cards that would significantly impact Washington business owners.
HB 2095/SB 5988 require businesses to transfer unspent gift card funds to the state as unclaimed property after three years, report consumer data to the Department of Revenue related to gift cards, and honor gift cards even after funds have been turned over to the state.
HB 2094/SB 5987 require businesses to cash out gift cards to customers when the balance is below $50 (raising the threshold from $5) - essentially forcing businesses to act as ATMs, attracting criminals and potential fraud.
The Association of Washington Business is urging business owners and consumers to take a moment to contact their legislators and ask them to oppose these bills.

Vote by Tuesday Feb 13 on BISD Technology Levy
The sole issue on the February ballot is the matter of funding our local public schools via the renewal of a local Enrichment & Operations Levy and Technology Levy.
If passed, they would support educational programs, student learning, staffing and technology for four years (2025-2028) to fill the gap between state funding and the actual cost of fully educating BISD students. In recent history, BISD has never operated without local levy support.
Ballots should have arrived in your mailboxes last week - if you did not receive one please reach out to Kitsap County Auditor.
