COUNCIL PRESENTED WITH REDEVELOPMENT OPTIONS FOR CURRENT POLICE SITE
Three options regarding the redevelopment of the current Police Station will be presented by ECONorthwest at tonight's council meeting.

  • One hundred percent affordable units
  • Mixed-Income Scenario - mixed market and affordable units
  • Long-term land lease with revenue dedicated for an affordable housing project at an alternative site

The island’s current police facility will likely be vacant by Q3 of 2023.

GET STOKED: NEW ISLAND SKATEPARK DESIGN UNVEILED 
The Strawberry Hill Skatepark design will be presented to the public at the Nov. 17 board meeting of the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.

The proposed additional 16,660-sf. skatepark is designed for skaters (roller skaters, skateboarders, inline skaters, and scooters) of all skill levels .

Key features include:
  • Open street skating area with ramps, stairs, rails 
  • Undulating momentum-building pump track
  • Adjoins existing 20-year-old Rotary Skate Bowl

The meeting begins at 6pm on Thursday 11/17 at the Bainbridge Island Recreation Center.

CITY HOLDS PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR BUDGET & REDISTRICTING
Tuesday November 8 at 6pm
City Council will hold the final public hearing relating to the 2023-2024 Biennial Budget.

The city's projected revenue growth is 5% in 2023 and 1% in 2024.

Some of the biggest line items for the proposed budget include:
  • Facilities maintenance 
  • Pavement repair
  • Consultants for the Winslow Subarea Plan and City Comprehensive Plan


Also tonight, there will be a public hearing on Resolution No. 2022-29 to adopt a redistricting plan for COBI (making all island districts equal in population based on the 2020 Census).

'TREES' EXHIBIT OPENS AT HISTORICAL MUSEUM
Friday November 18
Intimate photographs capturing the Island's trees' majesty and fragility will be on exhibition at BI Historical Museum starting on November 18.

Inspired by the book Historic, Champion & Unique Trees of Bainbridge Island, WA by Olaf Ribeiro, the exhibit features 7 oversized photographs of Island Champion and Heritage Trees by Joel Sackett.

Trees exhibition can be viewed Wednesday - Sunday from 10am-4pm for the next year.

Admission is free.

AMBASSADORS PREPARING ISLAND BUSINESSES FOR 2023'S NEW WASTE REGULATIONS
New waste reduction requirements for single-use plastics on BI go into effect Jan. 1 – are you ready?

Business Ambassadors will be visiting local food, retail, and lodging establishments in the next two months share information and answer questions.

The city has also secured discounts on compliant products through vendors for Bainbridge businesses.

There is still time to vote! Voters have until 8pm today to drop their ballots off in a ballot box (the Aquatic Center), or at their county election center, or in the mail (without a stamp). Keep an eye on live updates for election results.

BI READS FOR JUSTICE
Wednesday Nov. 9 at 6:30pm
BI Reads for Justice is a six-month, all-community reads program running now until March 2023.

Everyone is invited to read the first book in the program, “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You: A Remix of the National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning” by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi

Then, attend events where everyone can engage in a compassionate, respectful way. The first event is on Wednesday Nov. 9 at Eagle Harbor Book Co. at 6:30 p.m.

SUPPORT VETERANS WITH A GREEN LIGHT
Nov. 7-13
Kitsap County will illuminate its buildings green Nov. 7-13 as part of Operation Green Light.

Individuals can also participate by adding green lights to their home or businesses to honor veterans.

By popular demand, Wildcat will have an additional public screening at the Historic Lynwood Theatre on Saturday Nov. 12 at 2:30pm.

Bainbridge Island Youth: Partners in Health Engage Chapter hosts a discussion on the Intersectionality in Public Health.

Registration is free, but donations are appreciated. All proceeds support Partners In Health-medical school in Rwanda.
