Legislative Update
"State of the State" and Education Reform


Today, Governor Hogan will give the annual State of the State Address to the General Assembly. In this address, the Governor will outline his key legislative and policy priorities. It is widely expected that he will dedicate a significant portion of the address to the public education reforms proposed by the Kirwan Commission. In 2020, the “State of the State” in Maryland includes a powerful Democratic majority in the General Assembly and a Republican governor. This combination resulted in the General Assembly overriding a gubernatorial veto five times.

Ambassador Program for 2020 but in order to do so,
we need volunteers!

What's An Ambassador Do?
A Chamber Ambassador’s role is to support membership outreach and retention for the Chamber. The committee consists of dedicated volunteers who introduce prospective members to Chamber staff and support and mentor new members through various communication channels and event attendance. 

How Will Being An Ambassador Help Grow Your Business?
Ambassadors are the welcoming arm of the Chamber and therefore have more opportunities to build great business relationships, not only with each other, but with new and prospective members .

Tech Committee is Online
To kick off the New Year Alpha Engineering hosted a Networking Mixer on January 23rd. About 50 Chamber members attended to mix and mingle with the newly formed Tech Committee and chat about the issues and opportunities they are confronting with technology in their business. This was the first of many networking events that the Chamber will host this year. It was also a chance for the Tech Committee to roll out a short survey and unveil plans for their next event, the Tech Crawl on April 7.
