Salt Lake Chamber and EDCUtah Announce New Executive Director

The Salt Lake Chamber and the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah) are proud to announce Ryan Starks as the new Executive Director of EDCUtah.

“Ryan is an exceptional leader with a proven track record in economic development,” said Derek Miller, President and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber.

His deep experience, innovative mindset, and strategic vision make him the right person to guide EDCUtah into its next chapter. We’re excited to see the impact he’ll make in advancing Utah’s business community.”

Starks most recently served as the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), where he played a key role in major economic milestones. Under his leadership, Utah secured historic investments—including Texas Instruments’ $11 billion expansion—resulting in over 13,000 high-paying jobs and $16 billion in capital brought to the state.

“I’m honored to lead EDCUtah at such a pivotal time,” said Starks. “Utah’s business climate is one of the most vibrant in the country, and I’m eager to build on the incredible foundation already in place. My focus will be on driving statewide growth, strengthening communities, and fostering new opportunities for all Utahns.”

Starks’ appointment signals a strong future for EDCUtah as it continues its mission to support sustainable economic development and enhance the quality of life across the state.

Utah Becomes First State to Ban Fluoride in Public Drinking Water

Utah has become the first state in the U.S. to outlaw the addition of fluoride to public drinking water. The new law, signed on May 10, 2025, is being praised by supporters who argue that individuals should have the right to choose what goes into their water. Critics, however, warn the move could lead to increased dental health issues, especially in children. Public health officials are now working on alternative strategies to support oral health statewide. The ban will take effect later this year, prompting changes across municipal water systems.
