Records Director Nomination:
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has nominated Lonny Pehrson, former records counsel to the Utah AG’s office, as the first director of the new Government Records Office. The role replaces the seven-member State Records Committee under SB277, aiming to expedite public records appeals . Critics worry the appointment “consolidates too much power” and reduces transparency, citing his past efforts to withhold AG calendars . A Senate confirmation hearing cleared him out of committee on June 9, with the full Senate vote expected later this month
