Government Affairs Update - Week 3
During Week 3 of the Iowa Legislative session, both the Senate and House spent the beginning of the week working on education legislation and two constitutional amendments.

  • SF160, a bill requiring public schools to provide an in-person learning option (if requested) passed both chambers and was signed by Gov. Reynolds on January 29.

  • SF159, a bill related to education savings accounts, passed the Senate and was sent to the House on January 28.

  • SJR7, a proposed constitutional amendment ensuring the right to bear arms, passed both chambers and will be placed on a ballot in 2022 for voters to approve or strike down.

Register for Breaking Glass on February 25
Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Julie Kenney will be the Breaking Glass speaker this month. Attendance is limited to 25 people in person from 8-9:30AM on Thursday, February 25 at the Commerce Center. A virtual option is available.

Tickets are $10 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members. This session of Breaking Glass is sponsored by Clear Lake Bank & Trust.

Ag Breakfast - March 23
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Bushel Boy Farms President Chuck Tryon are the headliners for the 39th annual Ag Breakfast. The event, which celebrates Ag Week, is scheduled from 7-8:30AM on Tuesday, March 23 at The Music Man Square.

Tickets are available in books of ten for $100 for Chamber members and $120 for non-members, and individual tickets are priced at $12 each and $5 each for students.
