A note from your President,

Dear Members,

As we welcome in a brand new season, we are also at the beginning of our fiscal year for the Chamber. The Board just had their annual Retreat - a day full of brainstorming, new ideas, focusing on member benefits, events, and how we can do better. We had a great time getting to know our new Board Members, and are excited for their upcoming term.

Please join us at our next Coffee & Conversation - Tuesday, October 17th 11:30 - 12:30 at VCSU in McFarland RM 206 where we will discuss the Valley City Good Life Campaign with Kara Anderson.

Also, our annual Save a Buck and Spend some Doe, will be held Friday, Nov 10th and Saturday, Nov 11th - a great time for businesses to offer specials, discounts, DIYs and prizes for the busy weekend.

I want to wholeheartedly thank our outgoing Board Members - Dawn Mathias, Trina Lee, Denise Orthman and Tanya Couture. I sincerely appreciate all of the time, passion and effort you have put into this board and the community over the past years. Your generous energy and time contributed to this volunteer work was incredible - THANK YOU!

Penny Wolla, Board President

Amazing Customer Service Doesn't Go Unrecognized

The Ambassadors were busy on the 21st visiting 3 businesses to award 3 customer service awards.

Our first stop was to Handy Home & Hardware, where Joel Gortmaker, Store Manager, was awarded. His nomination read:

"Joel is always so helpful and knowledgeable. He has helped several times with plumbing issues and uses his tools to get us what we need. His service is what keeps us going back and he has always made us feel important and I couldn't ask for better customer service. Joel is what customer service should be, we are so thankful for suck a kind, respectful individual and most importantly knowledgeable person at our local hardware store."

The second stop took us to Aesthetica to award store owner Heidi Dittmer with a customer service award. Her nomination read:

"I went in for an eyebrow waxing appointment. Heidi does amazing work. She's welcoming and she will go beyond and make you feel special and amazing. Heidi is a hard worker, amazing business owner with tons of knowledge. She's always helping others and I think she deserves to be recognized for everything she does for her clients and community."

Last stop was the Valley City Department of Motor vehicle where we awarded DMV Manager Amanda Rowh. Her nomination read:

"Just wanted to take a minute to let you know what a pleasure it is to do business with Amanda Rowh at your Valley City office. Every time I have needed title transfer, registration, and license renewal, Amanda is always cheerful, competent and professional. It is refreshing to know that she understands the importance of good quality customer service."

We would love to say congratulations to the individuals awarded! If you have received exceptional customer service from a local business, we welcome you to nominate them. This helps us recognize them and all that they do!

Our next Coffee & Conversation is all about the Valley City Good Life Campaign, what it is and how can you utilize it in your recruiting efforts.

The Valley City – Barnes County Development Corporation offers many resources including an extensive list of recruiting efforts. From job postings and candidate searches to workforce training programs and representation at job fairs, there are a wide variety of free resources available to Barnes County businesses. As important as these traditional means of recruiting are, it’s equally important to keep up with the ever-changing trends of what job seekers deem relevant on their career hunt.

Community promotion has become an essential part of workforce recruiting. If we are working to recruit new members to our community to fill our open positions, they are going to need to know a wide array of community aspects before committing to that decision; thus, the Valley City Good Life was created. Join Retention & Recruiting Coordinator, Kara Anderson, as she goes over recruiting resources available and how you can utilize the Valley City Good Life campaign in your recruiting efforts.

This will be held at VCSU in McFarland RM 206 on October 17 from 11:30-12:30.
