A Snapshot of Maryland’s Economy
The Federal Reserve Bank just published its monthly update on Maryland’s economy. Economic reports on Maryland were mixed in recent months, as the unemployment rate remained low and housing market activity increased on a year-over-year basis; however, payroll employment declined in June. While mortgage and student loan delinquencies continue to decrease in Maryland, auto loan delinquencies are rising.

  • In the fourth quarter of 2018, mortgage delinquencies in Maryland fell to 1.4%, which was the lowest level for the state since 2006.
  • Maryland's student loan delinquency rate was 10.4% in the fourth quarter of 2018, down from a peak of 12.2 % in 2012.
  • Auto loan delinquencies reached 4.7% in the fourth quarter of 2018, which was the highest level since the fourth quarter of 2010.
Did you know... There are almost 125,000 black-owned businesses in Maryland employing over 53,000 people and generating revenue of more than $8.5 billion?

Join the Anne Arundel County Economic Development Corporation at a reception to network with area business owners and celebrate the conclusion of the 2019 African American Business Roundtable series begun in January.

Attendees will also hear from consultant Will Howard who will highlight how Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses initiative supports and expands the African American business community.
Transportation 101 is Back!
The Central Maryland Transportation Alliance is excited to announce that it will be hosting another round of Transportation 101, their FREE workshop program aimed at educating and activating business executives who want to better understand and engage with transportation projects and policies in our region. They are now accepting applications for our fall 2019 class!
Transportation 101 graduates are equipped to provide relevant and timely information to help policy makers, and business leaders make informed decisions about transportation infrastructure investments in our region.

Classes will be held from 6 pm-9 pm every Wednesday from October 9 to November 20 at the offices of the Baltimore Community Foundation (2 E. Read St., Baltimore, MD 21202) and include dinner. Interested candidates can learn more and apply through September 18 at the link below!
Opportunity MDOT
The Maryland Department of Transportation has launched a first-of-its kind program to empower businesses throughout the state. Opportunity MDOT is designed to help connect small businesses owned by minorities, women, and veterans with new opportunities related to the I-491 and I-270 Public-Private Partnership (P3) project. With an estimated investment of up to $11 billion, this P3 project strives to provide travelers with congestion relief. The Opportunity MDOT program will dynamically increase access to opportunity for minority and women works and business owners alike.
