Please Welcome Our Newest Member, Atlantic Challenge USA!

Atlantic Challenge USA keeps traditional maritime skills alive through community rowing, sail training, coastal camping expeditions, and participation in international Contests of Seamanship.

Their aim since 1986 is to provide experiences for personal development, community building, seamanship skills, and a connection to maritime heritage through building, rowing and sailing traditional wooden boats, primarily Bantry Bay gigs.

This summer they are offering a series of four-day or weeklong expeditions for all ages. Guided by seasoned instructors, you will learn to camp on the islands of Penobscot Bay and row/sail a 38 ft. Bantry Bay gig, an 18th century design from the French Navy. In another program they will venture to Maryland to sail the traditional, very fast Chesapeake Bay log canoes of the early 20th century.

From July 21-29, 2024, they will host the Atlantic Challenge International Contest of Seamanship in Belfast with up to 12 teams from around the world.

When not on expedition, they will also host a series of open to the public rows in Belfast harbor. All information and sign up details can be found on their website
