We are working hard at the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce to keep our members informed in initiatives that are happening in our region, province and country. Pumpkin Walk 2020

While the Pumpkin Walk in the park is on hold this year, we are still planning on creating a little fun for the kids this Halloween with the help of local businesses! There are three ways for your business to participate.

You can... collect and display student entries from the Pumpkin Colouring Contest (you get to judge the entries and give the prize); offer to have real carved pumpkins in your window display on October 30-31; and/or, donate funds for candy and the Chamber will make and distribute candy bags (including your business name) to schools in Vanderhoof on October 30.

Please contact me if you would be willing to sponsor one or all of these ways to celebrate Halloween! We want to make this holiday fun, despite the restrictions that are in place (the Province will be announcing their recommendations for Halloween soon).

Director's Note

As we see active cases of COVID-19 in BC climb along with speculation that we are in the ‘second wave’ it is imperative to prepare. I would like to take this opportunity to remind businesses that have not already applied for the Canada Emergency Business Account that the deadline for applications is October 31^st and all required documents requested by CRA must be submitted by November 30^th. Talk to your accountant if you are unsure your business qualifies and your primary financial institution on how to apply.

Digital economy: rapid response + resiliency (der3)

In response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to offer the Digital Economy: Rapid Response + Resiliency Program (DER3) to support small-medium sized businesses, in any sector, enter or expand in the digital economy.

The program has no costs or obligations and we have a great team of experts to help you anywhere along the process of getting digital.

We are hosting a quick 30-minute webinar all about the program on October 7th at 1:30pm and would love it if you attended and helped spread the word to any businesses that you know of who might be interested.

On September 24th, CNC held a Strategic Planning meeting regarding their 5 year plan for the future in Vanderhoof. We discussed how CNC could best meet the needs of the community. Some of topics discussed were;

Creating a gathering spot or "heart" in the community
Building a community Advisory group to reach out more to the local community
Increase the relationship in the community and provide better communication
Provide courses for all ages, young and old, as well as core programs
Approach schools and work together with industries to provide the best programs

During this time of business uncertainty, we understand that finances are tight. That is why the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce is offering our renewing and new members the option to pay your membership fees over three months. And a reminder that our membership runs on a 12 month basis. For example, if you join in May 2020 your membership is good to May 2021. We feel that this method supports our members best so that everyone gets the most out of their membership.
