Statement in Response to Alachua County Board of County Commissioners' Repeal of the County Business Tax
Below is a statement on behalf of the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce regarding the repeal of Alachua County's Business Tax:
"Business competitiveness supports jobs for families and new opportunities for communities. The Chamber applauds the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners for supporting economic opportunity for citizens and success for businesses.

The Business Tax generated what is reported to be in the range of $200,000 in receipts formerly directed into the County's general fund. When the repeal takes effect, these funds will be free to be redirected to jobs, employee paychecks, new startups and other activities that ultimately offer benefits to the entire community ."
