We’ve had quite a busy spring at the Chamber!

Our Salute to Business Awards event was a hit with delicious food, great networking, and the chance to recognize some truly amazing businesses and individuals in our community. As always, the Regency Conference Center treated us right and helped make the evening a success. If you haven’t checked out the event photos and award winners yet, be sure to take a look! >> 2026 Salute to Business Awards Recap

Then came our 14th Annual 8th Grade Career Exploration Fair. With more than 600 students and over 50 career role models participating, it was an exciting and busy day!  One of the really special moments from this year’s career fair came full circle. One of our role models first attended the event as an 8th grade student 13 years ago and returned this year to inspire the next generation. That’s exactly why this event matters. Students get the chance to explore careers, ask real questions, and start thinking about possibilities for their own future. Sometimes the impact lasts far beyond a single school day. >> 2026 8th Grade Career Fair Recap

Just last week we hosted our 2nd Annual Regional National Civics Bee competition. All of our finalists were winners, but congratulations to Colin M. from St. Clare Catholic School, Conner B. from Edward Fulton Junior High, and Alexander K. from Edward Fulton Junior High for advancing to the state competition! One of the best parts of these school partnership events is that we work alongside our educators to make them happen. Illinois ranked #1 in the nation for number of essays submitted, and our Chamber ranked #1 in the nation among participating Chambers with 557 essays submitted! That simply would not have happened without the support and encouragement of our educators. We'll post pictures soon!

We also have A LOT of ribbon cuttings on the books between now and August. Forgive us if we can’t always meet every request exactly as hoped. It’s a great problem to have and a strong sign that businesses continue to invest and grow in our community!

And finally… it’s already time to start planning our annual golf tournament! Interested in serving on the committee? Email me at director@ofallonchamber.com. We’d love to have your help!

Business Insights | More Foot Traffic, More Risk: How to Prep Your Business for Major Events in Your City

Large local events can bring in a host of new customers. For instance, when nearly 121,000 out-of-town Taylor Swift fans descended on Pittsburgh in 2023, the city’s economy received an estimated $46 million over the course of two days. Similarly, The Players Championship attracts roughly 200,000 golf fans each year to the small town of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, generating $40 million in direct economic impact and upwards of $234 million annually.

Whether a popular musical artist is coming to town or your city is preparing to host a big game, major events can bring a flood of customers to your small business. Savvy ones can capitalize on these types of opportunities while balancing the increased risk. Here’s how to prepare for the influx of customers that come with a large event—and how to protect your business during peak demand.

Bye Bye Brain Fog: Stop Draining & Start Refilling Your Business Brain

Real talk: If your business ran the way your brain does at 2pm, would you still have a business?

You'd never let your bookkeeping run on fumes. Never let a key piece of equipment go without maintenance. Never shrug and say "good enough" when something that drives your whole operation starts underperforming. But your brain? The thing running every decision, every conversation, every creative fix you pull out of nowhere? That one you've just been working around.

In this month's article:

  • Why your muscles have been stealing from your brain (and how much it's actually costing you)
  • The dosing mistake almost everyone makes — and why doubling down changes everything
  • What researchers found when they tested this on sleep-deprived people that will make you rethink your worst weeks
  • Why the work you're already doing in the gym is making this work better
  • What to buy, what to skip, and why the gummies are a waste of your money

This isn't about adding another thing to your plate. It's about getting your brain back online for the second half of the day.
