What: Reimbursement of some of the costs associated with international business travel
Highlights: up to 50% for-profit or municipal; up to 75% non-profit on eligible costs such as airfare and accommodation
When: re-opened June 30, 2022 and is now accepting applications until July 22, 2022
Who: Non-profits, Business, Service Providers
What: Help Albertans develop new skills and assist employers and industry to grow the workforce
Highlights: up to $1.5million available per project in three streams: (1) reskilling unemployed, (2) region & employer-led projects that address regional workforce challenges and (3) industry-led projects that address provincial workforce needs
When: Apply at least 30 days before training commences
Who: Employers private and non-profit: First Nations and Metis settlements; the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (if in a community with a population of 100,000 or less); and Alberta Treasury Branches (if in a community with a population of 100,000 or less).
What: to train new or existing employees
Highlights: up to $10K per existing employee or up to $15K to hire & train an unemployed Albertan
When: ongoing application intake for projects completed by March 2024
Who: Businesses (including cooperatives) and Non-profits and Community Economic Development partners (Indigenous-led may receive up to 100% costs)
What: to help create more jobs and position Canada for an inclusive recovery and long-term growth
Highlights: projects need to contribute one or more of the following: support the transition to a green economy; foster an inclusive recovery; preserve competiveness and enhance resilience through productivity improvement and digital adoption and/or technological solutions; and or strengthen capacity in sectors to Canada’s recovery and growth such as food production
When: fourth intake June 1 until July 22, 2022 (note this initiative ends March 2024, more intakes to come)
Who: Non-profits in rural communities under 1,000, or small cities between 1,000-29,999 or indigenous groups in either urban or rural
What: projects that either create a portion of, expand or implement an entire food system – must be infrastructure specific and community-driven
Highlights: an example would be outfitting a community kitchen housed in a community centre complete with cold storage, as well as a nearby smokehouse.
When: annual application deadlines for small stream January 15, May 15, September 15
What: financial assistance to acquire, build, purchase, repair, renovate, upgrade or expand sports, recreational, cultural or other related public-use community facilities
Highlights: online information sessions are available and can be booked; examples of local recipients include: Berwyn Elks Recreation Development Society $2,835.00 for upgrades to their Community Centre, Bezanson’s Agricultural Society $33,177.00 to upgrade their Community Centre Gymnasium, and High Level $19,950.00 for upgrades to their Mosquito Creek Rodeo Grounds
Who: Non-profits, staff and volunteers
What: facilitation, public engagement, community collaboration, and learning and development services to including: strategic planning and fund development and grant writing.
Highlight: Community Development facilitators can build community capacity by facilitating sessions to help identify assets in your community, including individuals, organizations and others and then assist with creating an action plan for capitalizing on those assets
Who: For-profits, non-profits, industry associations, employer organizations, economic development organizations, municipalities
When: the 2022-23 Expression of Interest application period is expected to open late summer to early fall 2022
What: funding to support labour market adjustment strategies and workforce development including to attract and retain workers through partnerships
Highlights: examples include developing strategic plans for future skill requirements and to prevent skills shortages, or testing tools that assist in the attraction and retention of workers.
Who: small & medium sized businesses that invest in R&D
When: open as of January 1, 2021
What: a refundable tax credit delivered through the corporate tax program
Highlights: to encourage economic growth by supporting small and medium-sized businesses that invest in research and development (R&D) with a grant worth up to 20% of qualifying expenditures
