National: Congress Faces September Deadline on Transportation Funding
From highways and bridges to ports and transit, America’s transportation system keeps commerce moving. Federal surface transportation programs expire September 30, and Congress is working on the next five-year authorization. For businesses, sustained investment and funding certainty are important to infrastructure planning, regional mobility and economic competitiveness.
The Chamber supports timely action to maintain transportation funding and provide businesses and communities with the certainty needed to plan, invest and compete. Businesses can learn more about the reauthorization effort and share their priorities with their congressional representatives. Click here for more information.

National: Proposed H-1B Fee Could Add $103,265 to Hiring Costs
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has proposed a $103,265 fee for employers filing H-1B petitions subject to the annual cap, in addition to existing fees. The proposal would affect employers of all sizes and could significantly increase the cost of hiring specialized talent. The fee is not yet in effect, and businesses can submit comments here through September 24.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has previously challenged a similar H-1B fee, citing the program’s role in helping businesses fill critical positions in technology, health care and manufacturing. The new proposal is broader than the earlier fee and could affect some workers already in the United States. Click here for more information.
