Town: Planning Commission Backs RH Project
On August 27, the Planning Commission recommended Town Council approval of the RH Gallery & Restaurant project—unanimous for the Conditional Use Permit and 4–1 for a unified façade. Chamber CEO Jennifer Lin and several Chamber Board members were there strongly advocating for the project and its benefits to our business community. The project now moves to Town Council for a final decision. This flagship destination has a proven track record of drawing regional visitors—if approved, it is expected to create a vibrant Old Town corner, bringing more customers to our surrounding small businesses, strengthening our tax base, adding new jobs, and supporting long-term vitality for Los Gatos. Town: Main Street Bridge Parking Closed Aug. 18–Sept. 8
Main Street Bridge parking is closed through September 8 while Caltrans builds the new south-side barrier and sidewalk. The north-side sidewalk and bike lane will remain open, and work will run weekdays only. South-side parking reopens Sep. 8, with north-side parking closure dates still to come. National: Duty-Free $800 Rule Ends Aug. 29 — Tariffs & Delays Ahead
Starting August 29, the federal government will end the “de minimis” rule that allows sub-$800 shipments to enter duty-free. Several European postal operators are temporarily pausing most packages to the U.S., and DHL says it won’t accept business parcels bound for the U.S. until procedures are clarified. Expect delays, added customs steps, and new tariffs (e.g., ~15% on many EU goods; some UK items over $100 at 10%). Businesses who import should review pricing, coordinate with your carriers/brokers, and update customer timelines. Click here for more information.
