National: Inflation Falls Near Five-Year Low, but Affordability Still Pressures Consumers

A key inflation measure dropped to about 2.4% in January, nearing the Federal Reserve’s target and signaling price pressures are easing. However, overall costs remain far higher than before the pandemic, and affordability continues to shape how consumers spend. Businesses should expect fewer sudden cost spikes but still price-sensitive customers; focus on value messaging and disciplined pricing rather than assuming demand will accelerate as inflation cools. National: Mortgage Rates Fall to 6.01%, Supporting Homeowner-Driven Spending

The average 30-year mortgage rate dropped to 6.01%, its lowest level in more than three years, easing borrowing costs and helping unlock stalled home moves, refinancing, and renovation projects. Moves, trustee sales, and home upgrades often circulate spending through local design, home services, retail, and dining businesses. This could bring a gradual spring lift tied to housing activity. 2026 Chamber Gala

Shine Among the Stars, the Los Gatos Chamber’s 2026 Gala, will be held Saturday, March 28 at Nestldown from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy an elegant, highly social evening bringing together Los Gatos’ business, civic, and community leaders for exceptional cuisine, curated beverages, and meaningful connection as we honor the people and businesses who make Los Gatos shine with the presentation of the Stars of Los Gatos Awards (see prior box).
