February developments suggest the Bay Area labor market remains in a cooling phase, with continued layoffs across the region, including recent cuts at EV maker Lucid, alongside slower hiring and restructuring tied to cost controls and AI-driven investment shifts. The pattern is moving beyond isolated company announcements toward a broader shift in employer confidence, reinforcing that high-cost tech regions like Silicon Valley are especially sensitive to hiring pullbacks. National: Court Blocks Trump Tariffs, but Trade Risk Remains
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump exceeded his authority in imposing sweeping tariffs under emergency powers, potentially unwinding some existing duties. However, the administration is already moving to pursue new tariffs under different legal authorities, meaning import taxes could still rise in the months ahead. The ruling did not remove trade policy risk; it shifted it. For businesses that rely on imported goods, this is not a clean reset.
