State: California AI Transparency Law Takes Effect August 1
California's AI Transparency Act takes effect August 1, requiring large providers of publicly accessible generative AI systems to label AI-generated images, audio, and video and provide tools to help users identify AI-generated content. While the law applies primarily to major AI platforms rather than most small businesses, it reflects California's expanding oversight of artificial intelligence and signals that businesses increasingly using AI for marketing, customer communications, and content creation should expect AI regulation to continue evolving. National: Fed Holds Rates as Economy Sends Mixed Signals
The Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.5% to 3.75% at its July 29 meeting. A 9-3 vote, with three policymakers dissenting in favor of a rate increase, highlighted differing views about inflation and the appropriate path for monetary policy. The U.S. economy also grew at a slower 1.5% annual rate in the second quarter, although consumer spending remained strong and business investment continued to grow. The decision leaves the benchmark rate unchanged as policymakers continue evaluating inflation and broader economic conditions. Click here and here for more information.
