National: AI Tool “Sticker Shock” Ahead for Businesses
Major AI providers (OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft’s Copilot, etc.) are entering an “Uber moment,” likely phasing out free or low-cost tiers in favor of paid subscriptions and usage-based fees over the next 18–24 months. Businesses that rely on these tools for customer support, marketing, or data analysis may soon face significant cost increases. Key takeaways include experimenting now with high-ROI AI use cases, and defaulting to lightweight models for routine tasks while reserving premium models only when quality truly demands it.
