Town: FY 2025–26 Budget Update
The Town of Los Gatos faces a projected $3.7 million deficit for FY 2025–26 and is weighing a mix of service reductions, reserve use, and new revenue options to close the gap. Staff have proposed allocating 100% of Measure G sales tax proceeds to public safety operations, shifting away from the previous 50/50 split with capital reserves. Tiered budget-cutting options have been presented, none of which currently impact filled full-time positions. The Finance Commission is reviewing the budget’s underlying assumptions and will deliver formal recommendations after its May 12 meeting. A joint study session with finance experts is scheduled for May 19, followed by the Town Council’s formal consideration of the Proposed Budget on May 20. Click here for more information.
National: U.S.–U.K. Trade Deal Reduces Tariffs, Supports Supply Chain Stability
On May 8, 2025, the U.S. and U.K. announced a new trade agreement aimed at lowering costs and easing supply chain pressures for key industries. The U.S. will reduce tariffs on British autos from 27.5% to 10% and eliminate tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the U.K. In return, the U.K. will cut its average tariff on U.S. goods from 5.1% to 1.8% and expand access for American exports. While a baseline 10% tariff remains on many U.K. imports, this agreement is expected to benefit California businesses by improving access to critical materials and helping stabilize international trade flow.
