OUT & ABOUT
Donna Visits MyGym
Ernest Huertas, director of My Gym
As I stepped foot into My Gym, I thought, “Oh, what it would be like to be young again.”  The ten, two- year-olds who filled the location, were all very active. A few children played with blocks while others tossed colorful balls into a turtle shaped pool. The adventurous children were going up and down on a slide or throwing a basketball in a hoop.

My Gym, located at 3511 PCH, Torrance is owned by Wai Sallas.  I had the pleasure of speaking with Ernest Huertas, director, on my visit.  My gym offers fit and fun classes for 11 different age groups of children, birthday parties, gymnastics classes and much more.

Rep. Lieu Statement on Appointment as Assistant Whip

Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) has been appointed as an Assistant Whip for the Democratic Caucus in the 115th Congress. In the 114th Congress, Mr. Lieu served as the President of the Freshman Class of Democrats.

Upon his appointment, Mr. Lieu made the following statement:

"I am truly honored by the opportunity to serve as an Assistant Whip for House Democrats. I look forward to working with Whip Hoyer, Leader Pelosi and my fellow House Democrats to push back against any and all attempts by House Republicans to enact special-interest-driven plans to repeal Obamacare, slash Social Security and Medicare, gut environmental regulations, and undermine our civil liberties.

"My fellow Democrats and I will be working on innovative policy solutions that protect and expand the wellness, economic prosperity, and freedom of each and every member of the American Family."

Governor’s Prudent Budget Adds to Rainy Day Fund

Governor Brown, this week proposed a prudent and balanced state budget for 2017–18 that eliminates a projected $2 billion deficit and bolsters the state’s Rainy Day Fund, while continuing to invest in core programs.

“In the midst of economic and policy uncertainty, Governor Brown’s prudent budget proposal is a smart approach that will protect taxpayers and important state programs for the long run,” said California Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Allan Zaremberg.

In a letter to the Legislature, the Governor commented, “In all likelihood, the coming years will bring even worse financial news—either from the start of the next inevitable recession or from changes at the federal level. This uncertainty about the future makes acting responsibly now even more important.”

SOCIAL MEDIA TIP OF THE WEEK
You're Only Seeing 7-9% of What You LIKE on Facebook!
So, you've "liked" or "followed" a person or business on Facebook. Maybe it's a page dedicated to sharing healthier recipes in an effort to keep your New Year's resolutions, perhaps your favorite sporting team's page, or the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce's page. Now why in the world isn't Facebook showing you content from those pages consistently?

There are several factors at play, but the primary reason is simple: If you don't interact with the page by "liking," "commenting," or "sharing" posts on it, Facebook's algorithm determines you must not be THAT interested in it and stops showing you their content in your timeline. There are a few work-arounds, and this is the best bet to ensure you don't miss a beat with news and events from the Torrance Area Chamber. Follow these step-by-step instructions and watch your timeline turn into news you can use! Questions? Feel free to stop by the Chamber office with your smartphone and we'll help you out!

Step 1: From your Facebook page, enter "Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce" into the search field. *It should pop up when you start typing it in.
Step 2: Confirm that you are, in fact, "Following" the page.
Step 3: Hover over the word "Following" and click on "See First"

This will place TACC posts first in your newsfeed when we post. You can follow these same three steps for any pages you enjoy! And remind your clients and followers to do the same for your page - it will help you maximize your reach on social media. Happy Facebooking!
