UCLA Health to Present the Armed Forces 5K Run | Walk
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Torrance Police Department and Village Runner, is pleased to announce that plans are well underway for the Armed Forces 5K Run/Walk to be held on Saturday, May 20th.  UCLA Health is the presenting sponsor of the event.

The City of Torrance is one of the few cities in the nation designated by the U.S. Department of Defense to host an Armed Forces Day celebration with the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade as a highlight. The Parade has the distinction of being the nation’s longest running military parade sponsored by any city. This rich tradition began in 1960; Mayor Al Isen, with the help of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, organized the first parade as a tribute to friends and fellow American who had served in the Armed Forces.

Last year, Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the Armed Forces 5K Run/Walk the morning of the parade with an inspirational welcome from General Robert B. Abrams, Commanding General, U.S. Army Forces Command. The firing of a canon to start the race was a highlight for many participants.  The “Freedom Run” is a special segment of race festivities in which active duty service men and women from all branches of service run in formation in PT gear, call out cadence, and participate in the Torrance Armed Forces Day 5k Run/Walk. The Military units that participate in the race represent “freedom,” which exists in America because of the sacrifices of our service members, for whom we are incredibly grateful.

Sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, please contact Donna Duperron at (310) 540-6688.

SOCIAL MEDIA TIP OF THE WEEK
Show Your Selfie!
Choura Events' mantra is "Don't Be Boring" and Ryan Choura's selfie game is anything but ordinary. When the LA Business Journal awarded Choura Events for the 3rd year in a row, he promoted the win with a selfie.

If you're posting on social media and hoping to engage your followers; one sure-fire way to get their attention is to feature your "selfie" in your photos. Whether it's a photo you take of yourself at your shop, at an event or out-and-about in the community; when consumers can connect with  you on a personal, and, thereby emotional level; they are far more likely to consider  doing business with you when they are in need of your product(s) or services. Sell cars? Take a photo of yourself in front of the latest model. Are you a tax accountant? Take a selfie at your desk working on a client's file. Are you in the promotional products field? Snap a shot holding the latest trend in promo products. Whatever it is you do, show yourself to bolster your brand, while demonstrating your product or service!

Businesses that are aware of the vast benefits of combining this unique method in their social media marketing are ahead of the game. But don't just take our word for it; there's a plethora of marketing and advertising experts writing articles about the use of selfies to maximize efforts with with social media. A quick Google search for "selfies and social media for business" will give you hours of reading material.
