Donna Visits Banter and Bliss Candle Company
Sheena Tahilramani, Founder, Banter and Bliss
As I entered Del Amo Fashion Center, Sheena Tahilramani, Founder, Banter and Bliss Candle Company greeted me. Walking through the mall, I became inspired by the positive welcome Sheena provided. As we entered her store, I noticed the assorted items she had displayed, as well as the area in which candle making is taught. The one item that caught my eye was a beautifully decorated swing with a backdrop in which customers can take photos.

Banter and Bliss Candle Company, founded in 2014, provides customers with the opportunity to shop for an assortment of items as well as the opportunity to make candles. The store is full of merchandise from a collaboration of small businesses and crafters. Meticulously organized on shelves and tables, customers can find plated jewelry, home décor, body oils, sugar scrubs, crystals, gemstones, charcuterie boards, and more. Read more...

Small Business Can't Afford Congress' Anti-Tech Legislation
Torrance is a diverse community that balances a high quality of life with a business environment that helps large and small companies thrive. Unfortunately, a set of federal politicians have proposed a series of antitrust bills that would undermine our economic foundation and impose new costs and burdens on consumers and small businesses. Congress needs to hear from small businesses and consumers that this is a bad idea.

The state of antitrust bills is aimed at curbing the power of large online platforms and would require that these companies sell off lines of their business and be prohibited from self-preferencing their products on their own sites. What the politicians fail to consider, however, is it will be Torrance-area consumers and small businesses that will bear the negative impacts of these laws. Read more...

Business Roundtable to Provide Insights into Programs
The Torrance Chamber of Commerce will launch the second part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) series on March 11, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. This event will be virtual.

“The second event will be a Business Roundtable where two businesses will share their thoughts about how they create a sense of belonging in their workplace and answer questions the facilitator poses. The idea is that this panel discussion will build upon the first event to bring more clarity and concrete examples for smaller chamber businesses to glean from because they may not have the same resources or knowledge in comparison to their larger contemporaries,” stated Barbara Graham, Vice Chair of DEI. Read more...

Testimonial Thursday
Cliff Numark, BarreWorks Studio
"My wife and I joined the Torrance Chamber through the Torrance fitness company we own, BarreWorks Studio.  After we started running the business, I knew we had to join the Torrance Chamber because I was active in the Chamber's program Leadership Torrance. Leadership Torrance is an INCREDIBLE leadership program that not only covers important principles (we learned the Tuckman model of change and many other concepts) but also outlines the essential elements (e.g., City government, large and small businesses, cultural aspects, and interactions with the County) of what makes Torrance such a wonderful community. We even had a class project - the first community in Southern California to put on its own blood drive campaign, Torrance Saves Lives! After participating in the program, I was selected by my peers to be the Director of Leadership Torrance the following year, overseeing the next class. And this entire experience, along with other involvement in the Torrance community, prepared me so that when I was elected to the Torrance City Council, I could hit the ground running! Thanks to the Chamber for all you do for Torrance businesses and our community!"
