Torrance Chamber Opposes Single Payer Health Care Proposals
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has joined a large and diverse 122-member coalition of California-based organizations that is is registering formal opposition to CalChamber-identified job killer bills, AB 1400 (Kalra; D-San Jose) and ACA 11 (Kalra; D-San Jose). The bills would establish and raise taxes necessary to fund a single payer health care system called “CalCare” in California.
“The best path to achieving universal health care is to build upon the progress our state has made under the Affordable Care Act, which has cut the number of Californians who are uninsured from 17% to under 8%. AB 1400 calls for an expensive and unproven approach to health care that removes consumer choice, eliminates thousands of good-paying jobs, and threatens California’s ability to respond to future public health emergencies,” stated Serena Josel, Chairman of the Board. Timely Information from the FBI, Los Angeles Field Office
The recent attack at a synagogue in Texas underscores the enduring nature of violent threats posed to Jewish communities from terrorists and perpetrators of hate crimes. We are asking you to help us raise awareness of potential threats to religiously affiliated facilities and groups regardless of type, sect, or denomination.
The FBI has released videos demonstrating the three tactics you can use to keep yourself and others safe during an active shooter attack: run, hide, and fight. We encourage you to use these films in your work within the community, but please note some of the content is disturbing and therefore should not be screened for young audiences. A short description of each film with links: Read More...

The City of Torrance Commission on Aging is accepting nominations for the 2022 Older American Awards. The commission is calling for organizations to nominate their star senior volunteers who have gone above and beyond to serve their respective organizations, and are seeking to honor them in a special way that signifies the deep appreciation of their hard work.
Senior volunteers are often the backbone of Torrance based organizations, as they have watched the city evolve over the years, and possess the wisdom, skills and knowledge that benefit organizations.
