Strong Opposition Stops Single-Payer Health Care Bill, Two Other Job Killers
Three California Chamber of Commerce job killer bills, including one that would have raised taxes by more than $160 billion annually to fund a single-payer health care system, were stopped in the state Legislature Monday and are likely dead for the year.
In a statement Monday, the CalChamber expressed relief that the single-payer health care proposal, AB 1400 (Kalra; D-San Jose), failed to pass before a key legislative deadline, but warned the proposal will likely resurface in the future. Read More...

That is why I never miss the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of the Region event. CalChamber Supports California Fair Pay and Employer Accountability Act
The California Fair Pay and Employer Accountability Act is an absolute priority for CalChamber this year. It will repeal the Labor Code Private Attorney General Act (“PAGA”) and replace it with a more effective and efficient process for employees to recover unpaid wages and will also eliminate the abusive litigation employers have been dealing with for over the past ten years. From the data we have seen, employers have spent billions on these settlements.
CalChamber is in full SUPPORT of this initiative and is currently working with several other associations, including the California New Car Dealers Association, California Restaurant Association, and Western Growers Association, to get this initiative qualified for the November 2022 ballot. Opinion: Antitrust Bills Threaten California Businesses and Economy
As many California businesses continue struggling under the pandemic, members of Congress are pushing for antitrust legislation that would break up digital tools and online services that assist small enterprises. While this misguided legislation targets large tech companies, consumers and small businesses will suffer.
The current package of antitrust bills in the House, aimed at a select number of tech companies, would prohibit certain platforms from promoting their products on their own sites, break up integrated services offered by large companies, and prohibit mergers of a certain size. Read more....

"Being a Torrance chamber ambassador is such an incredible opportunity to not only network with business leaders and local elected officials but also to work behind the scenes to help define your community. It gives you the chance to do more than just participate, but to really make a difference by playing a lead role in chamber events and activities. The bigger the difference you make in your community, the more people will pay attention to who you are and your represented business, giving you a distinctive edge when it comes time to talk to your next client. We are part of a community, and the Torrance chamber has taken that to the next level and turned it into camaraderie".
