Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Leadership from the United States Junior Chamber
L to R: Melissa Yamada, Heather Vardell, Donna Duperron, Neil Fitzgerald
Last week, it was my honor to welcome Heather Vardell, 2017 National President and Neil Fitzgerald, 2017 National Vice President to the Chamber office.  Heather and Neil represent the United States Junior Chamber (JCI).  Heather and Neil were visiting as a result of a request made by Melissa Yamada to start a Junior Chamber of Commerce, under the umbrella of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.

After a series of meetings with Melissa, and through mentorship of Don Lee, a former Torrance Jaycee, the meeting with Vardell and Fitzgerald yielded positive results.  Announcements will be made in upcoming editions of Chamber Weekly as to a Meet-and-Greet to learn more about the program.

On-Call Rest Periods Not Allowed, California Supreme Court Rules

In a disappointing decision for California businesses, the California Supreme Court ruled recently that on-call rest periods are not permissible. This decision will require many California employers to re-examine their rest-break policies and practices.

There's always something happening with the Torrance Area Chamber
Use a Social Media Management Tool

If you’re using the native publishing platforms for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, you’re probably wasting a lot of time and being less productive than if you had one concise tool to help you manage them all. Social media management tools like Sprout Social, Buffer and Hootsuite make it a lot easier to:

  • Publish content across multiple platforms
  • Schedule posts in advance
  • Collaborate with your team
  • See all of your social media feeds from a single dashboard instead of logging into five different sites
  • Track and measure your results

There are plenty of other benefits to using a social media dashboard, but those instances alone are more than enough to make the move. The casual user may be able to stick with managing their social media from their phones, but as a business, you need to use a tool that will allow you to be more efficient and strategic.

Look who joined the Chamber! Welcome to the community.
The Torrance area business community wouldn't be the same without you.
