Executive Director's Notes

The wildflowers are fading, the season is winding down and life is getting back to normal in Borrego Springs. I'm proud to say that the Chamber helped over 1100 people in March, the majority being visitors. This number does not reflect the visitors and calls we forgot to mark down (it was crazy at times) nor does it include the hundreds of people Marie Perroud helped at the Chamber Farmers Market booth. I can't thank the volunteers enough for all of their help with everyone working double duty at one point or another.

These heroes are Judy Lewis, Jim Lewis, George Thompson, Jenny Huntley, Rachel Rench, Jeni Peterson and Marie Perroud.

Also "speedy recovery" wishes go out to Joy McBride, the one volunteer missing all of the action as she is recovering from a fall and doing well. We miss you Joy!

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

On April 17th, 2024 Montezuma Valley Road will be reduced to one lane from Palm Canyon Drive to Mile Marker 16 between the hours of 7am - 7pm. CHP and flaggers will be onsite to assist with the Lane Closures and Intermittent Traffic Control.

Location: Montezuma Valley Road/S22, from Palm Canyon Drive to Mile Marker 16.

Lane Closures & Traffic Control Description:

- Closure of Northbound Lane from Mile Marker 16 to Palm Canyon Drive

- Closure of Southbound #1 Lane from Palm Canyon Drive to Mile Marker 16

- Intermittent Traffic Control

- Contraflow Traffic Control using Southbound #2 Lane

Annual Hazardous Waste Removal

Anyone 65 years of age and older is provided one annual free home pickup of hazardous waste from the “Our One Earth” SD County Hazardous Waste Center at 877-713-2784 (if using a landline dial 1). For more information about what hazardous waste is, brochures are available at the Chamber.

Did You Know?

Some historians speculate that April Fools' Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1.

People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called “April fools.” These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.
