Donna Visits Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc.
As with several visits to Chamber members, I am often taken back by the longevity and diversity of businesses in Torrance. This past week, I was welcomed to Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc. by Colleen Sherfey, Senior Marketing Director.
Morinaga & Co., LTD., was founded in Tokyo, Japan in 1899 by Taichiro Morinaga, whose dream was to deliver nutritious, delicious Western confectioneries to the people of Japan.
Morinaga Nutritional Foods, Inc., a subsidiary of Morinaga Milk Industry, Co., Ltd. is a global leader in dairy and soy manufacturing. At the heart of the business is a philosophy to create a new food culture based on the excellent power of milk and soy, and to make a difference in people’s health and society in general.

Race for Torrance City Council Starts at the Chamber’s Candidate Forum
On the morning of January 29th, Candidates for Districts 2, 4, & 6 were featured in a panel, discussing many issues that have been the subjects of numerous advocacy efforts led by the Chamber. It was a well-attended event by people in the community, all eager to hear from the five candidates and what actions they will take to better the city of Torrance if elected. The questions asked by the moderator, Karl Schmidt of Parker, Milliken, Clark, O'Hara & Samuelian, APC, were generated by various members of the Chamber. Some of the topics that were discussed were rising pension costs, the homeless and mental illness issues in the city, how minimum wage laws are affecting the business community, and the increase of sales tax the local governments are looking to adopt.

AB5: Diverse Crowd Marches On CA Capitol to Overturn ‘Gig Economy’ Law
There were truck drivers demonstrating next to dancers, and singers standing in solidarity with court transcribers ... all manners of Democrats and Republicans, all united under the most unlikely of circumstances. It took Assembly Bill 5 to bring such a diverse group to the west steps of the Capitol on Tuesday morning, where around 300 people listened to several speakers describe how the “gig economy” law had impacted — or, in many cases, eliminated — their livelihoods.

Calling all Chamber Members: Volunteer Opportunities Available!
The Chamber is looking for excited and dedicated volunteers to join the committees of Torrance Fire Department Awards and Appreciation Luncheon (Thurs., April 30th at 11:30am), The Armed Forces 5K for Freedom Run/Walk (Sat., May 16th at 8am), and The Multicultural Celebration. Being a part of a committee will allow members to network and build stronger business relationships with other members of the Chamber and people in the community!
As a committee member, your commitment is to attend three meetings prior to the date of the event. Each meeting will take approximately one hour. These committees are formed to diligently prepare for the event and distribute tasks/roles.
If you are a member, excited to support the success of any of these events, please contact the Chamber's Event Coordinator, Michelle Aboytes, at
