Donna Visits Fort MacArthur in San Pedro
Over the course of the past four years, I have written articles about participating as an Honorary Commander with the Los Angeles Air Force Base. The mission of the Honorary Commanders Program is twofold; one, to educate key community leaders about a unit’s mission and to foster a supportive relationship with the community, increase military involvement in civic endeavors and organizations and make members of the local community feel part of the unit.

This past week, I was invited to Fort MacArthur by Lt. General John F. Thompson.  Lt. General Thompson greeted my husband and I on the front steps and invited us into his home where we introduced to his wife Ruthann.

Throughout my tenure as an Honorary Commander with Los Angeles Air Force Base, I was paired with Colonel Thomas R. Rock Jr., Senior Materiel. Leader for the Range and Network Division, Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB. Colonel Rock and I collaborated on several activities which introduced me to the Air Force and he to the Torrance community. Colonel Rock retired from the Air Force in June of 2020 and is currently the Senior Program Director at General Dynamic Information Technology. Read more.

New COVID-19 Workplace Mask Rules Align with CDC Recommendations
This last week, the Standards Board of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) adopted revisions to the COVID-19 emergency workplace rules.

California Launches New Digital Tool Giving Residents Convenient Access to Their COVID-19 Vaccine Record
The California Department of Public Health and California Department of Technology has announced a new Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record for Californians, available at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov. The tool is a convenient option for Californians who received a COVID-19 vaccination to access their record from the state’s immunization registry systems.

“While CDPH recommends that vaccinated Californians keep their paper CDC card in a safe and secure place, we recognize that some people might prefer an electronic version,” said California State Epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan. “And if one of the state’s nearly 20 million vaccinated Californians misplaces their paper card, the Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record provides a convenient backup.” Learn more.
Legislature Passes Budget, Clearing Way for Real Negotiations
The Legislature fulfilled its constitutional obligation this week by approving a state budget just ahead of the June 15 deadline. But meeting the formal requirement is merely an intermediate step in negotiations to finalize the comprehensive state spending authority.

The biggest obstacle to a final agreement is the haggling required to satisfy political and policy demands in the face of an unprecedented windfall of tax revenues and federal largesse. Read more.

1.   Where were you in your career right before joining Leadership Torrance? I was a new California resident having just relocated from the Northern Virginia and just shy of one year in my new career in Public and Government Affairs at the Torrance Refinery when I joined Leadership Torrance in 2006. In fact, I was at the Chamber participating in a Black History Celebration Committee meeting the second day on the job, so the Torrance Chamber played an important role in my career from the beginning. Read More.
