Duperron Develops Junior Leadership Torrance Program
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is launching a new program this fall designed to influence and inspire the future leaders of our community. The “Junior Leadership Torrance” program has been modeled after the format of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce’s highly-regarded Leadership Torrance program.

Approximately 30 participants will be selected by Torrance Unified School District faculty based on their leadership potential, specifically targeting female students in an effort to engage them in the professional processes of the business world. Selected sophomores from Torrance area high schools will participate in a series of activities and excursions aimed at sharpening their leadership skills and identifying career path opportunities in corporate, non-profit and municipal arenas.

Legislature Approves Cap-and-Trade Extension

With strong support from the California Chamber of Commerce and the business community, the Legislature yesterday approved AB 398 (E. Garcia; D-Coachella), which will extend the cap-and-trade program, which provides the least costly path to achieving the state’s ambitious climate goals.

“The Legislature achieved a bipartisan solution that will reduce the cost of compliance with the state’s ambitious greenhouse gas reductions,” said Allan Zaremberg, president and CEO of CalChamber.

Cap-and-Trade Deal Also Cut Taxes

Legislation extending the cap-and-trade program earlier this week also included several useful tax reductions. These tax cuts will help mitigate cost increases on rural Californians and partially offset some costs for California manufacturers and energy producers.

Dates: Fri., Aug. 4th & Sat., Aug. 5th

Volunteer Check-In Time: 6:45pm

Event/Volunteer Time: 7pm-10pm

At check-in, volunteers will be assigned to supervise an individual lane near the front of the course (best seat in the house!). Volunteers will make sure that the relay exchanges happen behind the line, and update the lane counters at each lap to help the spectators keep better track as the race progresses.

The lifeguard events are very unique to the International Surf Festival, and volunteers may sign up for one night or both nights. Volunteers receive an official International Surf Festival t-shirt & organizers promise a fun, low-pressure and memorable experience!
