Restauranteurs from the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce who comprise the South Bay Restaurant Association held their first meeting last week; which was graciously hosted by Gaetano's Restaurant.
South Bay Restaurant Association Launched
Under the Leadership of Vince Giuliano, Vice Chair Economic Development, members of the TACC’s South Bay Restaurant Association gathered for the first time last week. Giuliano welcomed restaurant owners as they arrived at Gaetano’s.

“The purpose of the South Bay Restaurant Association is to promote and protect these economically vital industries. Members will connect individuals from the restaurant industry so they can learn from one another, become more profitable, develop key relationship with government agencies, monitor local regulatory changes and provide a means to advance the industry. Further, this association will promote restaurants, offer access to information, provide networking opportunities, provide educational seminars and advocated,” stated Giuliano. State of the City Celebrates Bill Oberholzer as Distinguished Citizen of the Year

Friday, September 22nd will mark the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce's annual State of the City event, presented by Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance and held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance-South Bay.

The event will feature Mayor Patrick J. Furey's highly anticipated address; and will be highlighted by the presentation of the TACC's 'Distinguished Citizen of the Year' award to Bill Oberholzer of Preferred Bank in Torrance.

To know Bill, is to know that he is a man with a servant's heart; having dedicated the past 40+ years to volunteering his time with various community organizations and clubs. Oberholzer has served on the Board of Directors for Torrance Memorial Medical Center, the Torrance South Bay YMCA, the Torrance Cultural Arts Center Foundation, Rotary Club of del Amo and the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce; of which he is also past Chairman of the Board.

Board Members Assist Torrance South Bay YMCA's Youth Advisory Committee
William Brandt and Wyatt Hornstein, members of the Torrance South Bay YMCA's Youth Advisory committee (YAC), attended last week's Board of Director's meeting. YAC is made up of ten teens who provide insight on the YMCA's many youth programs. As a unit, they have planned YMCA's Teen Nights that allow teens from the Torrance area to have fun with multiple activities at the YMCA.

Brandt and Hornstein addressed the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors with a specific need, school supplies to donate to School on Wheels to help kids that can't afford the cost of buying new supplies. Items of need included backpacks, pocket folders, notebooks, colored pencils and packs of college ruled paper.
Rotary Distributes More than $30,000 to Local Organizations
David Henseler, President, South Bay Rotary Club presents the ARC house in Torrance with a donation. The South Bay Sunrise, El Segundo and Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Clubs gathered on August 24 th at Strand Brewery to distribute $32,000 to a number of local organizations. The recipients of the South Bay Sunrise Rotary Club were Wounded Heroes of America, Friends of Torrance Exceptional Athletes, Harbor Regional and the ARC house in Torrance.
Attention Small Business Owners: Scholarship Opportunity
Small business owners take notice. The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program is a scholarship-based program (paid for by Goldman Sachs) for qualified small business owners who are interested in growing their business and adding jobs. It offers you valuable skills, the opportunity to access financial capital, powerful networking opportunities, and much more.

It is a practical 11-session business entrepreneurship program that examines business fundamentals through the lens of actual business experiences, provides you with one-on-one business advisory services, and helps you develop and implement a business growth plan tailored to your business. 

Classes start in February 2018 and October 2018 and run for eleven weeks, one day per week, in Long Beach. There will also be a cohort in Los Angeles in summer of 2018 that you can apply for now, as well.

Who should apply?
1) owners or co-owners of a small business
2) business in operation for at least two years
3) have revenues in last fiscal year of at least $150,000
4) have at least four employees, including the owner
