Donna Visits Breakfast with South Bay's Health Care Leaders
Yesterday, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce held its second annual Breakfast with South Bay's Health Care Leaders event. Presented by UCLA Health, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance, and Kaiser Permanente; the event convened top leaders from each of the Torrance area's four major hospitals for a panel discussion about the affordability, accessibility and quality of health care locally, regionally and nationally.

Discussion topics included universal health care models, the opiod crisis/epidemic, and the future of health care, with attendees engaging in an informative and insightful Q&A with panelists.

Special thanks are extended to panelists Craig Leach, President & CEO, Torrance Memorial Medical Center; Santiago Munoz, Chief Strategy Officer, UCLA Health; Garry Olney, Chief Executive, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers Torrance & San Pedro; and Lesley Wille, Senior Vice President, Kaiser Permanente. Additional thanks to Tara O'Brien, Public Affairs Director for Kaiser Permanente for moderating the panel discussion and to Jac Folkert, Area Director, Marketing and Community Outreach for UCLA Health for serving as master of ceremonies.

TACC Staff Visit the 35th Annual Holiday Festival at Torrance Memorial
TACC staff got into the spirit of the holiday season by visiting Torrance Memorial Medical Center's 35th Annual Holiday Festival!

Holiday Festival is a one-of-a-kind holiday event that includes, beautifully decorated trees, entertainment, holiday gifts, children's activities, food court and special events

Holiday Festival helps Torrance achieve high quality medical services for all residents of the South Bay. This year all proceeds went to support Torrance Memorial's construction of the Hunt Cancer Center, a two-story facility that will consolidate all cancer treatment and services.
Torrance Area Leadership Attends State of the County
Supervisor Janice Hahn recently delivered the State of the County address at the Long Beach Convention Center to a room of 860 guests.

Supervisor Hahn presented her view of the challenges facing the communities of LA County as well as her vision for the future and the work she has begun since taking office in December 2016.

Los Angeles Air Force Base Celebrates the Holiday Season
Donna Duperron, President & CEO, is welcomed to the Los Angles Air Force base by Lieutenant General David D. Thompson, Vice Commander, Air Force Space Command, Washington D.C. Duperron was invited to attend the base's holiday celebration last week as part of the Honorary Commander Program.

The Honorary Commanders' program was formed to maintain positive and productive relations between the South Bay community and Los Angeles Air Force Base. Its members are prominent and influential businesspersons, civic leaders, elected officials, private citizens, retired generals, officers and Senior Noncommissioned Officers in the Los Angeles area who are Air Force advocates and supporters of LAAFB.
IRS Extends Deadline for Certain ACA Reporting Forms
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently  announced  that it is extending the due date for certain 2018 Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting forms to be provided to employees.

The deadline for providing Form 1095-B, Health Coverage and Form 1095-C, Employer-Provided Health Insurance Offer and Coverage to employees is now March 4, 2019, (extended from January 31, 2019).

Agency Issues Clarification for Sexual Harassment Training Deadline
The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has issued some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) discussing the new sexual harassment prevention training requirements that will have an impact on virtually every business in the state and all those businesses’ employees and supervisors.

In the FAQs, the DFEH has clarified that the law requires that all employees be trained during calendar year 2019. This means that employees, including supervisors, who were trained in 2018 or before will need to be retrained again in 2019. Read more...
State-Run Retirement Savings Plan Gets OK; Mandatory Enrollment Coming in 2020
California employers that don’t already offer a workplace retirement savings vehicle will be required to either begin offering one via the private market or provide their employees access to CalSavers, a state-run retirement savings plan, as early as June 2020.

The CalSavers pilot program is open for employers to enroll; however, mandatory enrollment and contributions do not go into effect until 2020. Employers need not register until then, or later for smaller employers. Read more...

The Chamber has teamed up with 'A Safe Place for Youth', a non-profit organization based in Venice which serves the homeless population throughout Los Angeles County, including the South Bay. Please bring at least one pair of new socks (men's & women's adult sizes) to Scott Robinson Honda as admission to the Chamber's Holiday Mixer.
