Donna Visits Mo-Mo-Paradise
As I entered Mo-Mo-Paradise, my senses kicked into overdrive. While opening the front door an incredible smell was in the air, restaurant guests could easily be heard laughing and engaged in pleasant conversations and beautiful green plants and orchids were displayed throughout the dining area.

I was greeted by Ryusuke Kanagawa, restaurant manager. Kanagawa was very welcoming and eager to share information about Mo–Mo-Paradise, a franchised restaurant located at 21641 S. Western Avenue, Torrance.

Since its first restaurant opening in 1993, Mo-Mo-Paradise has expanded its presence to over 20 cities throughout Asia with plans to expand further throughout the rest of the world. Currently, Mo-Mo-Paradise can be found in Japan, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, USA, Cambodia, and Indonesia. The Mo-Mo-Paradise brand focuses on traditional Japanese “hot pot” with a modern twist. Read More...
TACC Members & Health Care Leaders Convene to Discuss Affordability, Accessibility and Quality of Health Care in the South Bay
The December 6th “Breakfast with South Bay’s Health Care Leaders” is shaping up to be a sold-out event. Health care seems to be an issue on everyone’s minds these days. We surveyed some of our members to determine the focus of the panel discussion, and were deluged with questions and suggestions.

Expect these executives from UCLA Health, Kaiser Permanente, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Employers Group to address topics including the effects of the Affordable Care Act and possible replacement programs; the cost of health care and insurance, both personal and employer-subsidized; maintaining adequate facilities and trained personnel to handle the South Bay’s growing (and aging) population, and more.

The event will be held in the penthouse of the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance – South Bay, with check-in at 7:30am, a buffet breakfast and the program at 8:00. TACC Members $35; non-Members $50. Make your reservations for this first-ever of its kind event at or by phone at (310) 540-5858. Register today!
New Mandatory Poster on Transgender Rights for California Workplaces
California passed a new law ( SB 396 ) that requires all California employers to post a “Transgender Rights in the Workplace” poster starting January 1, 2018.
The new transgender rights poster must be displayed along with other mandatory workplace notices in a prominent and accessible location in the workplace.

The  Department of Fair Employment and Housing , the state agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws, has developed the poster. The correct version is dated November 2017, but the posting is not mandatory until January 1, 2018.

The poster, in part, follows  regulations  developed by the Fair Employment and Housing Council that went into effect on July 1, 2017.

Key topics covered by the poster include:
  • Definitions of terms such as transgender, gender identity, gender expression and gender transition.
  • A discussion on the right of employees to use restrooms, locker rooms and other similar facilities corresponding to their gender identity.
  • The importance of allowing an employee to dress in accordance with the employee’s gender identity and expression.

“We expect this posting requirement to increase understanding of the law and assist California employers in providing safe and inclusive work environments,” said Kevin Kish, Director of DFEH, in a statement.

Mandatory Training Requirement

SB 396 also requires mandatory sexual harassment prevention training to include a component regarding gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. This new law takes effect on January 1, 2018.

California’s mandatory harassment prevention training requirement applies to employers with 50 or more employees and requires training of all supervisors.
