Message from our Honorary Co-Mayors

Here we are.
2022!

Year-end festivities are in the past. Decorations have been put away. Even the cold winter weather may be waning. It sure was chilly over the past couple of weeks as yesterday was 77 degrees. An early January tease. I loved the warmth. Can’t wait for
consistent warm weather. It will come soon enough.
There sure were a lot of tourists over the past couple of weeks.
The town was hopping. We actually had to wait for traffic to pass. This was a prelude to Spring. It looks like we will have a lot of visitors this year, with or without a super bloom.
Businesses look forward to the annual influx of snowbirds,
weekenders and campers. Whether we like it or not, we live
 in a tourist town.
The winter and spring visitors allow our town to survive. Just like the flora and fauna, this is the season to get our affairs in order so that we can survive the summer.
Summer is always just around the corner. Summer is when
we “get our town back.”
We love the peace it brings. Part of why we live here.

Borrego in the News!

Help Us Solve This Mystery

The Chamber recently received this email -

Hello, on May 7, 1952 my dad crashed landed his airplane in an area that he called Borrego. I don't know if it was Borrego Springs, Anza Borrego or what but that is all that he wrote on the photo. I am interested in finding that crash site and wondered if you can help me get an idea by the view of the mountains and the house and the dirt road.
My dad's name was Donald Buck. That is my grandpa standing on top of the plane and his name was Dorman Price. Although it doesn't look like it from the picture because it had been painted since the war, that was A World War II trainer called a Fairchild PT-19. The plane developed engine trouble and my dad was lucky that he was able to land it without being killed. However, the airplane was totaled.
Thank you,
Terrie

If you have any idea's where this might be in Borrego send them to borregochamberdirector@gmail.com

Many of the streets in Borrego Springs are named after the brands
(used on branding irons) of past ranches in the area.
Can you name this street?
