A Word from your Honorary Mayor

As we wind down another great season in the beautiful Anza-Borrego Desert and the village of Borrego Springs, it’s a good time to reflect on the state of the village, so to speak.

Our local economy and tourism have been strong because we are a world-class recreation destination with a solid core of amenities and accommodations for folks to enjoy. But this did not happen overnight nor in a vacuum. It has been built over the years by a group of individuals and businesses that came together and formed your Borrego Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Since I have been in and around the management of the Chamber, some 16 years now, the Chamber has never been stronger than it is today. The facilities and programs of the chamber are robust and growing more so by the year.

Our elegant Visitor’s Bureau with its group of friendly volunteers, and its state-of-the-art EV charging stations welcome our visitors as never before..

Our many programs and outreach efforts are robust. From the wildly popular Certified Farmer’s Market to the fabulous Borrego Days Desert Festival and Parade in October, these events bring folks to the Valley and the Village for rewarding experiences that they will remember and share for years to come.

The Chamber website is a wealth of information about our history and our member businesses and institutions. Membership in the Chamber has never been higher, nor have website traffic and in-person visitations.

All these accomplishments are largely due to the hard work and savvy decision-making of one person, Executive Director Francoise Rhodes. With her steady leadership and business acumen, Francoise led us out of the depths of the Covid recession and transformed your Chamber of Commerce into a shining example of what a small town business trade association can accomplish.

While some stiff headwinds and stormy weather may be blowing our way, I believe that with Francoise at the helm, our local businesses will continue to survive and thrive.

Many of the streets in Borrego Springs are named after the brands

(used on branding irons) of past ranches in the area.

Can you name this street?

Correct answer: Frying Pan Road

Congratulations David Farley

New Welcome Signs

The Borrego Village Association (BVA) has been working closely with a volunteer committee to replace the aging welcome signs that greet visitors and residents of Borrego Springs. Originally installed in the 1970s, these signs are now faded, worn, and no longer reflect the vibrancy of our community. After an extensive planning process—including two community surveys and broad outreach—we have finalized three new welcome sign designs and selected ideal locations for them. Please visit the link below to find out how you can be

part of this exciting project.

Did You Know?

Commonwealth Bay, Antartica

The Guinness Book of World Records and National Geographic Atlas have both listed this bay in Antarctica as the windiest place on the planet. Katabatic winds in Commonwealth Bay are recorded at over 150 mph on a regular basis, and the average annual wind speed is 50 mph.

And we thought it was Borrego Springs!
