Donna Welcomes Full Board to the TACC Office
The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors convened this morning to kick-off the new fiscal year. Chairman of the Board, John Heffernan, AT&T, applauded board members for their passion and vision for the business community.

Discussion items included educational programs offered to members, advocacy efforts the past 30 days and the Leadership, Exploration and Development (LEAD) program for high school sophomores.

Serving their first term as board members are: Tim Personius, Ganahl Lumber Company; Minal Mondkar, Aura Seating; Michael Brenk, Bachem Americas, Inc.; Barbara Graham, Torrance Refining Company; Andrea Sala, El Camino College Foundation; Tamala Lewis, StubHub Center; and Kim Edwards, First Foundation Bank.

Cortez and Hudson to Co-Direct LEAD Program
Leslie Cortez, City of Torrance, and Brian Hudson, Torrance Fire Department, will serve as co-directors for this year's Leadership, Exploration and Development (LEAD) program. This highly interactive program acquaints sophomore students with community needs, opportunities, challenges and resources.

Students are provided the opportunity to develop leadership, communication and team building skills. The goal of the program is to introduce students to emerging career opportunities by meeting and working with a variety of professionals. Participation includes six sessions, graduation breakfast and a trip to Sacramento.

The LEAD program will kick off on Tuesday, October 16th with a day at the Torrance Historical Society.

Governor Signs Two Employment Bills: AB 2770, AB 2587
On July 9, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed two employment-related bills that are effective January 1, 2019: one sexual harassment bill to protect victims of harassment and one bill related to Paid Family Leave. Read more...
SBBEC to Recognize Local Sustainability
The South Bay Business Environmental Coalition (SBBEC) is hosting the 11 th annual SEED Awards event in September. Comprised of businesses and municipalities throughout the South Bay and beyond, the SBBEC uses the SEED (Southern California Environmental Excellence Development) program to recognize the extraordinary environmental efforts of local businesses, individuals and organizations.

Past SEED Award winners have ranged from individuals to international corporations each of which have helped the quality of life in the South Bay and surrounding region. By recognizing the efforts being made locally, these awards help demonstrate to others how a few simple steps can make a significant impact.

Rock Around the Block in Old Torrance
Cruise on down to the Torrance Historical Society and celebrate Torrance's 1950s All-American City Award with friends and family. You'll enjoy vintage cars parked along Post Avenue, courtesy of the Cruisin' 50s Car Club, Touring A's and local car owners; enjoy boppin' 50s music by DJ Ozzie, learn how to yo-yo from world-renowned yo-yo champion, Alex Hattori, check out old Torrance high school yearbooks and enter the Wham-O hula hoop, bubble gum blowin', cake walk and pie eating contests; complete with prizes!

Survios Virtual Reality to Host Tech Talks Kick-Off Mixer
On Thursday, July 26th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm; Survios Virtual Reality Arcade will be hosting the TACC's kick-off mixer for its Tech Talks program! If you haven't been to Survios yet, it's a fantastic new member business you need to check out. There will be refreshments and light snacks as well as interactive opportunities to experience their state-of-the-art technology first-hand.

Tech Talks is being chaired by David Kartsonis of Bakers Man Productions. David is a dynamic addition to the Chamber's program chair roster; and is putting together a stellar plan for future Tech Talks meetings. You won't want to miss this one! Survios is located on the lower level of the Del Amo Fashion Center, just across from the AMC Theater and Bath & Body Works.
