Congratulations Leadership Torrance Class of 2023

A graduation ceremony was recently held for 21 members of the Leadership Torrance class of 2023. Janet Payne, Torrance Historical Society, Natalie Pavolvski, California Water Service Company and Ron Harris, Torrance Police Department provided remarks on the impact that Leadership Torrance has had on their professional careers. Through this comprehensive program, participants engaged in professional development, community engagement, mentorship and a class based community project.


City of Torrance Mayor George Chen; City of Torrance Council members Bridgett Lewis, Mike Griffiths, and Sharon Kalani attended the ceremony. Jasmine Leon Guerrero, representing Senator Steven Bradford and Jennifer LaMarque, representing Supervisor Hahn presented certificates to the graduates. Belma Demirovic Chinchoy was recognized as the director of Leadership Torrance 2024 with Lisa Akiyama Robinson and Karen Pryor as co-directors.

Also acknowledged were the co-directors of this year's class; Theresa Mack; Sunrise Senior Living; Sue Moylan, Crest Marketing, Inc.; Mark Waronek, M & M Consulting, Inc.; Leslie Cortez, City of Torrance; Steve MacAller, Torrance South Bay YMCA; Sheldon Bracket, Counseling4Kids; Russell Akiyama, Sunflower Farms and Daniel Hawkins, 9Round.

Neighborhood Outdoor Warning Sirens to be Tested in Torrance

On Thursday, July 6th at 10:00 am, the City will test the recently upgraded outdoor sirens that are strategically located within the City. These new sirens are different from the one located and operated by the Torrance Refining Company. The TRC siren is tested the first Wednesday of every month.

 

The Torrance Neighborhood Outdoor Warning Sirens test will include a chime and text to voice announcement. “This is a test, only a test…” For more information about sirens go to www.TorranceCA.Gov/TorranceNOW.

Proposed Ordinance to Prohibit Smoking in and

Around Multi-Unit Residences

The Environmental Quality and Energy Conservation Commission (“Commission”) will be hosting a monthly meeting on July 6th, 7:00 pm, in the West Annex Commission Room, which is located at 3031 Torrance Boulevard. One of the items that will be considered that evening is the proposed ordinance to prohibit smoking in and around multi-unit residences. You can find a copy of the staff report and proposed ordinance for this item at www.torranceca.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/83297/638236427434470000.

 

As a reminder, this meeting is open to the public and there will be time allotted for public comment. Additionally, you may submit written correspondence on the item by emailing CDDinfo@TorranceCA.gov and including “Public Comment - Smoking In and Around Multi Unit Residences” in the subject line. For your awareness, all written comments received by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, will be included as a “Supplemental” to the Commission prior to the meeting. Comments received after 5:30 p.m., but prior to the end of the meeting will be added to the record.
