Donna Attends World Rugby Sevens Series
|
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, which took place at Dignity Health Sports Park. Rugby sevens is a variant of rugby in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves. Teams from 16 countries competed.
It was the first time I had seen rugby played. It was fun, it was exciting, and it was educational. Rugby is a combination of football and soccer. The first thing I had to learn is the terminology since it was different than any sport I had ever seen. Five points are scored when a player scores a touchdown, called a try. Two points are scored when kicking the points after the touchdown. The ball that they play with has an odd shape and players pass sideways or backwards, not forward. Read More...

CalChamber Adds Threat to State Oil/Gas
Employment to Job Killer
| |
|
Legislation threatening state oil and gas development operations and employment in related industries has been added to the job killer list.

AB 257 Amendments Raise Significant Concerns, Including Whether the Council's Broad Authority is Constitutional
|
For the first time ever, an unelected council will both set sweeping standards for a specific industry’s wages, hours, and working conditions that prevail over existing laws and have the power to repeal or amend laws and regulations created by the Legislature or a regulatory agency. Earlier versions of the bill would have also established statutory, mandatory joint liability within the franchise industry.
AB 257 (Holden; D-Pasadena) underwent a significant number of amendments on August 25, 2022—ninety-three of them to be exact. While proponents claim the amendments address concerns raised by legislators and opposition, a closer look at the amendments shows the bill is still highly problematic. Read More...
