Donna Attends National Night Out 2022

The Torrance Police Department, along with Neighborhood Watch groups participated in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’ last night. There were six National Night Out parties last night in Torrance, one in each City Council District. These special events have proven to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
As I was walked to the party I was attending, I could see clusters of people gathering and I could smell the meats being cooked and prepared for tacos. I passed by a few Torrance Police Department motorcycles that lined the street, as well as the Torrance Fire Department Hook and Ladder Truck. Notice of Intention to Fill City Council District 2 Vacancy by Appointment

The Torrance City Council took action at their regular meeting last Tuesday to fill by appointment the unexpired term of District 2 Councilmember George Chen who accepted the office of Mayor on July 12, 2022. The term of office is from appointment on August 23, 2022 until the regular municipal election scheduled for March 5, 2024 results are certified and the new city council are installed.
All applicants must by 18 years of age, reside within the City of Torrance District 2 and be registered voters within the City of Torrance District 2 at the time of appointment. The City Council will interview candidates separately and each applicant will have the opportunity to present their qualifications and discuss their candidacy with the City Council. Read More...

$85 Million in Tax Credits Available for California Businesses

This year’s California Competes Tax Credit (CCTC) application period is underway and the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) has up to $85 million in tax credits available to award businesses that want to locate in California or stay and grow in the state.
The tax credit program has a total of $304,727,233 in tax credits allocated for the 2022–2023 fiscal year, which will be split among three separate application periods. This year, applications may be submitted between:
- July 25, 2022 to August 15, 2022: $85 million available;
- January 3, 2023 to January 23, 2023: $120 million available; and

March 6, 2023 to March 20, 2023: $99.7 million plus any remaining unallocated amounts. Read More...

Small Business Council to be Held Tomorrow

Small Business Council brings together small business members to discuss common issues and help identify how the Chamber can develop innovative and value-driven programs to meet member's needs. The mission of the Small Business Council is "to help local businesses connect with one another and share best practices and work together" states Connor Hartwell, Hartwell Financial Services. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, August 4th at 8:30 am at the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce. The topic of the meeting will be 'Understanding Your Competitive Stance - How to Get & Keep Employees' with keynote speaker Mistee Ruiz, Chief People Advisor, Facio - "Your People Solution".
Karen Pryor of Mutual of Omaha Reverse says "Small Businesses have had it tough the past few years. Hiring employees has been a challenge, especially for those companies who don't have the extra capital to pay higher wages. Knowing your competitive advantage can help you land and keep those employees." Chamber Welcomes Task Force Focused on Real Estate

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted numerous monthly programs that are of no cost for members to attend for several years. Each of these programs provide a networking opportunity, as well as an educational component. This year the chamber is pleased to welcome a new task force that will cover topics such as; probate, code violations, non-owner occupants, real estate trusts, deal partnering, buy and hold, property management, traditional lending, and hard money lending.
If you want to begin looking into real estate investing this group is for you. All licensed real estate agents, new and seasoned investors, entrepreneurs interested in creating long-lasting wealth through real estate investing should consider attending the monthly meetings.
