Torrance Small Business Week, an extension of Small Business Saturday, serves as a critical launch into the holiday season for many local, small businesses. This national celebration was founded in 2010 by American Express and officially co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2011.
This year, 61 small businesses are actively participating in Small Business Week by offering discounts for their businesses during the week of Saturday, November 30th through Saturday, December 7th. Donna Duperron, CEO, attended the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber) Public Affairs Conference this past week in Anaheim. Jennifer Barrera, President and CEO, CalChamber, welcomed attendees to a sold-out annual event.
Panel discussion included artificial intelligence, anti-trust, clean energy and California votes-a legislative and congressional recap. A panel titled ‘New Kids on the Block’ was a legislative freshman debut. Additionally, a panel of CEO’s representing the CA Apartment Association, CA Medical Association, CA Building Industry Association, New Car Dealers Association and Western Growers Association addressed November ballot propositions.

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Apply for Leadership Torrance 2025 by December 13th | |

Leadership Torrance, a six-month program by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, equips participants with the skills and connections to make a lasting impact in their organizations and community. “Leadership Torrance provided a better understanding of how other professionals will use the knowledge and skills we learned and how they apply to their respective organizations. It helped me expand my professional network and increased my awareness of the work that makes Torrance a successful city,” said Rodney Davis, Moog, Inc., Class of 2024 graduate and 2025 Co-Chair.

Gale and Cirona to be Recognized | |

Charles Gale and Mike Cirona, Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce members, will be recognized on December 12th by the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce.
With nearly 27 years of legislative experience, Gale works as a Principal Government and Regional Affairs Representative for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the largest and one of the most respected wholesale water agencies in the country. Gale is the current chair of the chamber's Government Affairs Policy program. He will be presented with the John Parsons Award.
Mike Cirona, General Manager, Scott Robinson Honda, will receive the Shaun Lumachi Award. First awarded in 2012, in honor of Lumachi's legacy as a tireless business advocate, the Shaun Lumachi Award is presented to an individual who has taken a leadership role in representing the business community in the South Bay.

Kick off the holidays with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce at the 2024 Holiday Mixer, hosted by Scott Robinson Honda on Thursday, December 5th, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. This festive event promises an evening of networking, light refreshments, and an Ugly Sweater Contest to spark some holiday fun. Attendees are encouraged to donate a minimum of $15 at the door to benefit the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This donation serves as your ticket to join in the festivities and support meaningful initiatives in the community.
The evening will also feature an opportunity to learn more about Leadership Torrance at their dedicated booth. No RSVP is required, so gather your holiday cheer, make your donation at the door, and join fellow members for an unforgettable celebration of the season!

This past Tuesday, the 6th-grade students of Madrona Middle School celebrated the completion of the Jr. CEO Program with a well-deserved pizza party. Organized by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the five-week program introduced students to the fundamentals of becoming a CEO, guiding them through key aspects of business development. The program culminated in students showcasing their business creations at the 2024 Business Expo & Showcase. The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is proud to recognize the students’ hard work and extends heartfelt thanks to Sue Key, Ed.D., Principal of Madrona Middle School, for her support and collaboration in bringing this program to life. | |

Students love to hear from different industry professionals about their journey from high school to their current occupation. We had almost 20 career speakers for our College and Career Week in October.
