Out & About With Donna
Morro Rock, a State Historic Landmark, was formed about 23 million years ago from the plugs of long-extinct volcanoes. Morro Rock was an important navigational aid for mariners for over 300 because the rock is approximately 576 feet tall which made it the most visible in a chain of 9 peaks.
The Beautiful Central Coast
This past week my husband and I took a one-week vacation to Avila Beach and Morro Bay to camp. I have camped all my life and thoroughly enjoy the unforgettable people I have met and the destinations I have traveled to. I’ve always enjoyed talking to those in the campground to learn where they are traveling from and traveling to. On this trip we spent quite a bit of time with a family from Austria, as well as a woman who was traveling from Canada.

We rode bicycles from the campground to Morro Bay. We stopped a few times along the way to watch the sea lions, fishing boats and kayakers. After parking our bikes, we walked along the shops and listened to a band play on the dock. Read More...

Chamber Expresses Support of Chips for America Act
President & CEO Donna Duperron contacted the United States Capitol on Monday and urged Congressional Representatives Ted Lieu and Maxine Waters and Senators Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla to swiftly complete negotiations on the Bipartisan Innovation Act to fund the Creating Helpful Incentives for the Production of Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act and enhanced Facilitating American-Built Semiconductors (FABS) Act.

Doing so is critical to American’s workers and the United States long-term competitiveness. Semiconductors are essential to every sector of the economy, including aerospace, automobiles, communications clean energy, information technology, and medical devices. Unfortunately, demand for semiconductors has outstripped supply, partly due to shifts arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. This has created a global chip shortage and resulted in lost growth and jobs, in turn underscoring the need for increased domestic manufacturing capacity.
Employers May Need to Update Forms I-9 as COVID-19 Era Policy Ends
As a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) COVID-19-era Form I-9 policy ends, employers need to make sure they have updated their relevant Forms I-9 by July 31, 2022.

As previously reported, on May 1, 2020, the USCIS issued a temporary policy allowing an identity document with an expiration on or after March 1, 2020, to be accepted as a List B document. This policy was in response to the COVID-19 closure of offices or reduced services that prevented people from renewing their identity documents. Read More...
State Change in COVID-19 Definition of 'Close Contact' Leaves Questions for California Employers
One of the most well-known elements of COVID-19 workplace safety was changed last month — to relatively little fanfare — and it has left California employers with many questions.

The longstanding definition of a “close contact” — someone within 6 feet of an infected person for 15 minutes during their infectious period — has become a household term due to COVID-19 safety precautions over the last few years. Read More...
California Fair Pay and Employer Accountability Act Qualifies for 2024 Ballot
The Secretary of State has announced that the California Fair Pay and Employer Accountability Act qualified for the 2024 ballot on the random sample count of signatures. The initiative’s campaign submitted 962,217 signatures in support of the reform, meeting the 110% validity rate threshold.

The ballot measure will put workers’ labor claims back in the hands of the independent regulator, getting their claims handled faster without having to hire trial lawyers that drag out the process and take a third of their settlements. This initiative will also help small businesses around California that have been defenseless against shakedown lawsuits while ensuring willful violators will be fined double the penalties.
