Torrance City Councilmember Asam Sheikh, District Three, welcomes residents to National Night Out at Columbia Park. Words of appreciation were extended to members of the Torrance Police and Fire Departments by those in attendance.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhood safer, more caring places to live. Each Torrance City Councilmember hosted an event at a park in their district.

Congratulations is extended to Dan Ashcraft, owner of Ashcraft Design. Ashcraft, who was surprised with the news, will be presented the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award at the upcoming State of the City event on Friday, September 15th, 2023.
Since 1953, the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has selected the Distinguished Citizen of the Year whose achievements have been significant to the community and to the general welfare of the people of Torrance. Ashcraft's incredible work to support the community is recognized, admired, and noteworthy.

A California Chamber of Commerce-opposed bill that launches the state toward establishing an expensive and untested state-run health care system has been placed on suspense by the Assembly Appropriations Committee, but will be acted upon when legislators reconvene from summer recess.
The bill, SB 770 (Wiener; D-San Francisco), directs the state to create a workgroup to petition the federal government to redirect hundreds of billions of dollars in Medicare and Medi-Cal funding to a costly new, untested state-run health care system. Read More...

The International Trademark Association (INTA) and Mattel, will be hosting a workshop on Intellectual Property (IP) for entrepreneurs, innovators and those interested in growing their business using IP. In addition to keynote speaker Kathi Vidal, Director of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, several panelists will share their road to success. The U.S. Copyright Office will also participate in the program.
The event will be held in Santa Monica, August 18, 2023, 9:30 am - 11:30 am, and will include an opportunity for attendees to tour the World of Barbie exhibit. There is no cost for the event.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce has joined a multi-sector coalition, to protect and support hospitality jobs and small businesses in the region and by opposing the City of Los Angeles' proposal to raise the minimum wage for hospitality workers to an unprecedented $30 per hour.
Presenting on this important topic at next week's Government Affairs Program are Heather Rozman, President & CEO, Hotel Association of Los Angeles and Javier Cano, Vice President and Market General Manager for Marriott International's L.A. Live properties. Cano is also chairman of the Los Angeles Tourism Marketing District, overseeing a $27 million effort to drive tourism to the city. Read More...
