Donna Visits Black Angus Steakhouse

As I entered the Black Angus Steakhouse in Torrance, I was greeted by an extremely pleasant hostess who showed me to my table. The Western-themed décor is always intriguing and for a short while makes me feel a “little bit” country. In the several visits I have made to Black Angus, Dean Turner the General Manager, is continually seen greeting guests or delivering food to tables.

“For the past 17 years, I have worked with great people who are friendly and who have outstanding character skills at this location. Everyone understands that it is all about our guests. Our servers will gather to sing happy birthday or happy anniversary to our guests, they will offer words of appreciation to guests who are dining and they will seek to make sure guests have a wonderful experience,” explained Turner.

Senate Fiscal Committee Moves Multiple Tax Hike Bill without Vote

A bill proposing multiple tax hikes on state employers was sent directly to the full Senate without a vote on Monday by the Senate fiscal committee.

SB 567 (Lara; D-Bell Gardens) was identified as a job killer because it will significantly increase taxes on California businesses, who already have one of the highest tax burdens in the country.

It bypassed a vote or discussion by the Senate Appropriations Committee because the committee chair (also the bill’s author) determined there aren’t significant state costs associated with the three major tax increases the legislation proposes. SB 567 will be eligible for consideration when the Senate convenes next on Friday morning.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce opposes SB 567 and encourages all members to contact their State Senator to urge them to vote no on this reckless bill that will further impede business and economic growth in California.

Jack Walser to be Honored by Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi, 66th District
Jack Walser, owner of Walser’s, has been selected as the 66th District ‘Small Business of the Year’ by Assembly member Al Muratsuchi.

“I am proud to honor Walser’s, a family run business owned by Jack Walser that offers art supplies and related products since 1975, as my Small Business of Year honoree.  In addition to contributing to non-profit art associations and art schools, Walser’s has kept several hundred thousand pounds of materials out of landfills through its community-wide recycling program. Through its designation as an agent of the City of Torrance, the company hosts a recycling program that includes e-waste collection of electronics and appliances for residents, businesses and government agencies,” stated Assembly member Muratsuchi.

Walser will be recognized at ‘California Small Business Day' on June 5th at the Sacramento Sheraton Grand Hotel. The day’s festivities will include Capitol tours, inspirational speeches and acknowledgement of honorees.
