A Borrego Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving week has always been one of the busiest times of the year in Borrego Springs. There is something about our village that appeals to folks looking to get away for the holiday. Part of it is our gorgeous weather this time of year, and certainly the awesome natural beauty of this place has to do with it.

Thanksgiving is my favorite American holiday because it is based on the simple idea of gratitude. That feels inclusive to all, no matter what your belief system is or where you came from.

Borregans are grateful to live and work in this beautiful, remote desert. We truly care about our neighbors, and we are grateful for the visitors who sustain our economy and provide our families with jobs here.

Our gratitude is reflected in the way we treat each other and our visitors. We are truly glad to see you all! Maybe that is the key to why Borrego Springs is such a popular destination for this most inclusive American holiday; Our sense of communal gratitude shows, and folks know they are welcome.

Put it all together and it becomes clear why Thanksgiving is prime time in Borrego Springs. Beautiful weather, gorgeous scenery, peaceful sunny days and dark starry nights, a community that welcomes newcomers and visitors, and is grateful to call this remote corner of the world their home.

Off The Grid-Stargazing in Borrego Springs

Annual Hazardous Waste Removal

Anyone 65 years of age and older is provided one annual free home pickup of hazardous waste from the “Our One Earth” SD County Hazardous Waste Center at 877-713-2784 (if using a landline dial 1). For more information about what hazardous waste is, brochures are available at the Chamber.

Borrego Community Cleanup

Borrego’s community clean-up is held the first Saturday of every month, 9-10 a.m., commencing at The Circle and fanning out to nearby areas either on foot or by car to pick up litter. The Chamber provides bags and pickers; all you need to do is bring yourself!

Did You Know?

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 over a three day harvest festival. It included 50 Pilgrims, 90 Wampanoag Indians, and lasted three days. It is believed by historians that only five women were present. Turkey wasn't on the menu at the first Thanksgiving.
