Message From Our Mayor
My Privilege and My Pleasure
This coming Borrego Days we will be welcoming in a new Honorary Mayor for Borrego Springs. It has been a privilege and my pleasure to serve in this role for the last 3 years. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever even consider being named the Honorary Mayor a possibility. I keep looking for other terms to best describe it, but the truth is in the title, it has truly been an honor.
My first Borrego Days as Honorary Mayor I did a radio interview with Francoise Rhodes the morning of the parade. She asked me exactly what responsibilities my title entailed. I told her, “From what I’ve been told it is very easy, I just need to be an ambassador and promoter for this town I love so much. A job I have already been doing for years.” A job that I will continue to do for many years to come.
A title is not necessary to be an ambassador to Borrego Springs. Sure, we may lack in things like being able to run down to the major department store or go to the movies that night without a 3 hour round trip, but what we get back in return for living here is so much more.
It doesn’t take a promoter to show you the beautiful landscapes or skies. It doesn’t take a title to show you where the locals like to eat, hike or play. It doesn’t take a politician to realize we have a lot less crime to deal with than our major cities. And it doesn’t take an ambassador to make you feel part of this community, the locals who make up this community do that all on their own.
Borrego Springs will always be near and dear to my heart. I am humbled to have held the title of Honorary Mayor. It has certainly been a privilege and my pleasure, but most of all I feel extremely honored to have been considered worthy.
Andy Macuga, Honorary Mayor (at least for a few more days!)
P.S. On another note, Halloween is almost upon us and once again “Trunk or Treat” will be taking place at The Mall providing a safe & healthy environment for both children and adults. If you are unable to attend due to prior engagements or health concerns and you would still like to help, Carlee’s and Graphics You Can Trust will be accepting donations of candy.
Thank you all for everything you do for our community!
