If you reside within the city limits of Borrego Springs (either full/part time) you might someday require emergency medical evacuation by helicopter- which provides advanced life support and rapid transport to a Tier 1 or 2 Hospital. Due to our remote location the closest Tier 1 or Tier 2 hospital is located only in Palm Springs or San Diego.
Since 2015, the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund, whose mission is to create an enduring community wide benefit for the Borrego Region, has generously paid for emergent care coverage from REACH (a local affiliate of AirMedCare Network- the largest Air Ambulance Company in the USA) for ALL households in Borrego Springs.
NOTE: Mercy Air also services Borrego Springs as an Air Ambulance service but is not associated with REACH Air Medical Services. You do not have the option to purchase a supplemental policy/membership from Mercy Air to cover their flight. Those on Medicare will typically pay anywhere from $250 to $1500 approximately if flown by Helicopter Ambulance. Borrego Springs residents do not have a choice of which helicopter company will be dispatched since 911 determines the closest and first available helicopter for transport which is why we recommend you get our extremely affordable membership- which covers you virtually Nationwide!
Currently if you reside in Borrego Springs your REACH coverage is only within the city limits. However, if you do travel outside of the City of Borrego Springs and in the untimely event you and/or your loved ones need to be flown to a hospital, you will be responsible for the total cost of the evacuation up to the Medicare allowable rate. Good News: you may now purchase an extended evacuation annual membership from REACH:
See coverage map for details (www.amcnrep.com/james-smith) for coverage map details. Also, Borrego Springs residents have a pre negotiated discounted rate of only $35 per year (if you are over 60) and $45 per year (if your age is under 60) membership covers the entire household and any/all flights will be ZERO $ out of pocket.
Lastly, for those who travel frequently or live in other states seasonally REACH has a service called Fly U Home which you may be very interested in. If you or a loved one are in ANY hospital in the USA and a higher level of care is needed or you simply want to be in the hospital of your choice, REACH will fly you and 1 person anywhere in the lower 48 states on our ICU Private Jet for only an additional $134 a year per household -which is less than a typical night at a good hotel *International coverage available Enrollment is simple: 1) Call 760-457-6497 to enroll over the phone in 5 minutes! mention you are under the Borrego Springs MSP Plan and the AMCN coupon code is: 9760- CA-SIT 2) Enroll online: WWW.AMCNREP.COM/JAMES-SMITH
Once the site pulls up look for “Do you have a Coupon? click there and enter: 9760-CA-SIT and TRACK CODE: 14569

Nonprofit Organizations Encouraged to Apply for Grants
County Employees Help Charitable Organizations with Annual Grants

The San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) is now accepting applications for 2021 CECO grants. Grant applications must be received by Monday, Nov. 2.

Since 1956, CECO has funded local nonprofit programs with the mission of lending a hand toward addressing the diverse needs in San Diego. CECO is funded by the generosity of the employees and retirees of the County of San Diego. One hundred percent of contributions are redirected to the local community.

CECO grants funds towards tangible goods such as equipment, furnishings and other durable goods that directly benefit the population being served by the program. A complete list of prior grant recipients, as well as 2021 grant instructions and application can be found at sdceco.org.

In addition, CECO will be hosting a free virtual "Grants 101 Workshop" on Thursday, Oct. 8 from noon to 1:30 p.m. for community members to learn the basics of grant writing, as well as a general overview of CECO's 2021 grant application. RSVP online.

Questions pertaining to the grant application and/or allocation process can be directed to sdceco@sdcounty.ca.gov.
